Another Tire Thread: General Exclaim UHP or Goodyear F1 AS/C

Just as the title says. I'll need to replace my tires soon on the Legacy, and the OEM fitment is Bridgestone Potenza RE050A. I want to get another tire, because these things are $218 each at the tire rack.

I'm looking for anyone that can give me a general impression. I live where there will never be snow, ice, or slush. I only get rain, and a cold tire here is 60 degrees F. I drive a bit harshly on the streets, but no autocross or track use. So a summer tire is what I am looking for.

I have looked at other tires (Yoko Advan Neova's and Advan sports), but I have a very odd tire size, 215/45-18. Dunlop does not make the Direzza Star Spec's in my size, or I would get them.

General has a tire called the Exclaim UHP, and it looks good, but I'd like to hear from you guys first. The tread pattern is nice for water channeling, and they are cheap ($118)

Now, Tire Rack does have the Goodyear Eagle F1 AS/C tire, and it looks like a good wet weather tire, so any comments on those would be great. It is an all season, but I think it would work well for my purposes. They are only $100 a tire. Decisions, decisions.

Cliffs:

Need new tires, OEM's are expensive, are General Exclaim UHP's worth getting? Or the F1 better? Or another brand?

I am running Eagle F1 A/s on my type-s and love them. They can be a little noisy when they wear down but its not bad. They have great grip in dry and wet conditions. In really wet weather, hydroplaning is nonexistent.

Edit: I saw you said the F1 AS/C's which are different then the F1 A/S

I have been using the Exclaim UHP's on my Civic Si for 15,000 miles now and I love them. EXCELLENT tire for the money. I am impressed with the wet and dry traction and they are a good compromise between smooth highway cruising and great around town traction.

I don't know if they go in your size but take a look at the sumitomo htr zIII they have great reviews. Could you bump up to a 235/40/18 size? I know the diameter will be very close to oem.

Dan has been running the Exclaim UHP's on his TSX for ~a year (switched out with snows in winter) and he says they're really good in wet weather, but a little on the soft side. He says they're "great tires for the money." I know that we haven't had any problems with them, although this is only the second warm weather season we've had them on.

I had them for my tsx for a year as well. Their a bit too soft, and the side walls are kind of weak but they are xl rated. I really like them a lot for summer driving even took them out for auto x. that probably why i got a little less than 40,000 miles.

Also beware of the tirepressure on these i know alot people complain about bad mileage but people asked them how often they check their air. Every time they see them flat from alot of them. I check almost every 2 weeks.

I appreciate everyone's input. I think the big question has been answered. the Yoko S-drives are good, but in Japan, the are sick expensive (~$250 a tire, the RE050A'a are $350 a tire). Ouch.

I have about a month before I put it on order, but the UHP is looking like the tire to get, but I'm leaving this up if some others come through with a better suggestion.

I would never run anything Falken, the tread wear is terrible. I had the ST-115 and its only lasted 17k and done.

Well, I made a decision. I saw some more good reviews on the Goodyear F1 A/S-C, and at $97 a tire I couldn't pass them up (the UHP tires are now $118 each). And this difference pays for shipping. Thanks Tire Rack.

Thanks for all the posts and I'll have pics once they are mounted.

The generals have pretty good traction for the amount of the thread life. However, the sidewall is complete crap! So for DD, they are excellent, anything beyond that, its short of crappy.
