Another ticket thread, woot!

Ok so long story short I got an exhibition of speed ticket, 23109. I was going around a turn and the road was wet from earlier rain, and I accidentally stepped on the gas pedal and the car slid sideways a bit and screeched the tires but I resumed at the speed limit. 30 seconds later a cruiser comes flying up behind me and puts his lights on. No, I did not act like an asshat..... I was polite, engine was off, etc.

Should I fight this or try and plea bargain? I was considering traffic school but discovered that this might not be an option for me. Should I ask for traffic school first, and if I'm denied, do I still have a chance to fight it? Or vice versa (fight the ticket, if fail, then ask for traffic school)? The officer took a while to catch up to me despite me going the speed limit.... will that hold any weight? I don't want to pay more for insurance and have points on my record.

Thanks.

Why did it take so long for him to catch up, especially at the going speed limit? Where did he clock you? Some'n smells fishy.

As far as the defensive driving goes, I'm not familiar with whether or not you can fight it if you end up being turned down for driving school.

don't know about you, but in turns my foot is always on top of the brake pedal either because i've already slowed down or am in preparation to slow down, so it's nearly impossible for me to even hit the gas pedal by mistake.

I thought only 80+ year olds stepped on the gas instead of the brake.

Seriously, this is a tough one, I would say go to court anyway, if you have a good record, they may just let you out of it anyway. I've had it happen, went to court once for doing 50 in a 35. I told the magistrate that yes, I was probably doing 50, but that I was unfamiliar with the area and the last speed limit sign I saw was for 45. He said that sounded resonable and that if I came that way again to make sure I knew that spot dropped in speed limit, case dismissed.

Best chance is to plead stupidity. If you wern't an asshat there is a good chance they dismiss/lower the penalty.

I think you guys missed the red type, meaning he was making the car go sideways on purpose.

I personally would go to court, explain that you were going the speed limit and due to your rear wheel drive the car slide slightly sideways for a second but you corrected it and stayed in control of the vehicle. In most cases they'll either reduce it and take any points off if you pay the reduced fee or ask if you want to go to trial, in which you take a chance whether the cop shows up or not.

what supertrooper said... go to court and tell them your rear wheel drive made you skid a little but you got it back under control asap and they should reduce the ticket charge.

Show him your american muscle, let him ride, then show him how easy you can get it sideways.

+ rep, will do

Just to make something clear guys. I accidentally and unintentionally depressed on the gas pedal afterwards, thus spinning the tires. Completely on accident.

exhibition of speed?

Now how does a cop determine that on a slick wet curved road?

You must have been panicking and then finally calmed down and got the car under control.

I agree with everyone else here, plead stupidity, but that you were still in complete control of the car and were never speeding, which makes me wondering where the officer pulled the "exhibition of speed" charge.

If that doesn't work, ask for driving school, and leave it at that.

tell them that you started going sideways, and if you would of stepped on the brakes the car would have spun out, so you have to give it gas to get it straight.

Yep.

You're not going to be able to fight the ticket. The cop had every reason to pull you over, don't come complaining about not wanting to pay for it. If you're gonna do it then don't get caught, or be prepared to man up if you do.

Thank you.

I actually laughed to myself when I got pulled over. It was my turn I guess. Just hope I can get traffic school
