Another road trip, another POS...
Had to rent a car for work early Monday morning and Avis was virtually all out of vehicles because of the Superbowl - so I got stuck with a Chevrolet Cobalt.
My apologies if you actually own a Cobalt as it's probably a huge improvement over its predecessor.
1. Less than 2000 miles on the odometer and the transmission sounded like it had 200,000.
2. Raspy, low power ecotec engine sounded like rods were loose.
3. Various plastic trim pieces looked like they were leftover from the Cavalier bin. I could push in the trim around the radio by a half inch.
After driving this piglet for three days, I can't see how any reasonably intelligent person would spend their hard earned cash on one of these, versus other cars in its class like the Mazda3, Corolla or Civic. YIKES!
Generous Motors needs to spend some money in the right places or they are indeed headed for Chapter 11.

My brother has one. I think it's pretty nice. Interior fit and finish isn't great, but it isn't ANYTTTTTTTHING like the cavalier either. Plus, he got his during the employee discount stuff, and it was like 12k for a loaded LS. Way less than a comparable Corolla, 3, Civic, etc.

What's it worth now? Trade-in-value $3500...???

I had a Cavalier loaner car once from a Chrysler dealership...I feel your pain. That thing was a rolling death trap. At least it sort of had an excuse....it did have 133,000 miles on it, but still...
I went out to lunch with a sales rep today who was in town making calls. She had rented a Grand Am. As soon as I got in it I was like
- this thing is 100%
. Horrible cheap cheap cheap plastic everywhere, and everything was ROUND. Very weird. I think I've been spoiled in my TSX...I am always soooo happy to get back in it every time I'm in someone else's car.
