Another Road Confrontation
Another Road Confrontation
Well...............almost.
Tonight, something happened to me while on a bike. Of all the hundreds of thousands of kilometers travelled, an incident happened this evening I have never experienced before. I was cut off. And I mean really cut off. Someone merged into my lane and nearly put my new bike (the one I have been waiting for eight months) and myself into a concrete barrier. Never been cut off before? Hell yes. PLENTY of times. Comes with the territory. What happened afterwards, however, has never happened before.
After I laid on my horn the driver quickly moved back in her lane. I actually felt her car against my riding pants. She had stopped at a set of lights and I pulled up three cars behind her. I watched her undo her seatbelt, open the door, and exit her car. She hesitantly walked back to my bike. She walked up, nearly in tears, and apologized profusely. Fully admitting her guilt and wanting to make sure I was okay. In all my years of riding I have maybe received an apologetic wave from someone who has cut me off, but never a tearful apology from someone who would exit their car at an intersection. Admittedly up until that time I was livid, but my anger actually dissipated and I remarked to her to watch out for us motorcyclists. She remarked she would and returned to her car.
Shit happens, but it's great to see a motorist actually admit guilt and apologize for it. Anyway, just thought I'd share.
Ride safe everyone.

Glad you're ok, that's the most important thing. I totally didn't see that coming when reading the beginning of your post. I thought for sure you were going to say she yelled at you like it was your fault. It's refreshing to see some people really do still care and admit fault. Cool stuff.

The other night I was going probably 65MPH in the middle lane when a woman in a range rover decides to merge on the highway from the gas station exit ramp. Of course I assumed she saw me and again assumed she'd stay on the right lane, but nope, here comes the rover to the middle putting me to a near full stop. Of course while this is happening I'm honking at her and accelerated to her left so I don't have to be behind her ass, but the moment I pass by, she honks back at me with a finger. I don't think that the drivers are "careless", I just don't think they get the concept of merging or driving in general.
This happens way too many times and I'm rather surprised that someone actually came out and apologized. That's cool I guess.

Bike and rider are fine.
Thanks again everyone. There seems to have been a few threads as of late about confrontations on the roadways, and I'm still actually surprised how this one turned out. As mentioned, I've ridden a great many miles in far off places, and up until now, no one has actually left their car to apologize for nearly punting me into the weeds.
That was very nice of her. When someone does something stupid normally I get the "I'm going to look straight out the windshield as the car I just fucked over drives past me" reaction or the "I'm angry that you honked at me" reaction. The couple of times where the person has actually motioned "I'm sorry" just like you my annoyance went away.
Glad you weren't hurt and that she saw her mistake!
Happened to me a couple of days ago- a guy in a Corolla started to change into my lane (I must have been moving into his blind spot) before I honked. He then saw my car and waved an apology when I passed. Honest mistake, and I waved back.

Wow, what a pleasant surprise.... definitely didn't expect that outcome. And you were in contact with her car
that's crazy.
I try to be courteous whenever I'm driving by giving a wave when someone lets me in the next lane, and I flash my headlights/fogs (got automatic headlights at night) but its rare that someone will actually wave when I let them in, let alone what happened in your story!

Glad to hear you didn't get hurt. I try hard to look for motorcycles (and over here, scooters that ride in between traffic lanes), but sometimes its unavoidable.
I accidentally cut off a biker once in Florida. Because it was nighttime, all of the oncoming headlights kind of mixed together and I couldn't judge the distance. So I pulled out and he still had a good distance to slow down and change lanes. Of course, he was not wearing anything reflective, black on black, so he was a bit difficult to see. But he had the balls to come up to the car and start yelling at me. I apologized but it got worse. He followed me for quite a while. Not a nice thing in a country where you can die looking at someone cross eyed (this happened in FLA)
People do make mistakes, it happens. Just don't crucify people if they are apologetic.
No, not a thread hijack. Just relating a similar story.
