Is that common for the old owner to still be in the house a week after closing? The previous owners of my house were already gone come closing time. I would be pissed, that's gonna be one big mess.

No, but it is sometimes done by contractual agreement.
After selling, my parents rented their place for two months from the new owners while my parents' new place was prepped.

my best guess would be a crack/ruptured fuel line, from age/heat/being European




and about still being in the place ^^^ like will y said, depending on the exact contract very possible to still be there (like they may close in the middle of the month, but do not have to be out till the end of the month

This was a few days ago ... saw it on the local news the day it happened.

It occurred in a very high end part of the Greater Detroit Area.

yea, if they closed then technically the buyer already owns the house and it would be under his insurance (if he had it in place). i wonder what's going to happen with this situation.
