Another "Help my friend pick a car" thread
Friend of mine is looking for a car that
Must be:
Less than $20,000 CDN
Four seat convertible
Manual
He would prefer that it was:
Attractive (obviously)
Fun to drive
Decent amount of power (think ~250-300 horsepower, give or take)
Practical, as in a habitable backseat, trunk that can carry enough for a weekend for two or three. Three of us will be using this car for a road trip from Toronto to Florida this coming summer.
So far we've narrowed it down to an 06-07 Mustang GT convertible, and a Mitsubishi Eclipse GT of the same year.
Thanks in advance

I suggested a 335 as well, but apparently it "looks too much like the sedan", that and his family has had bad luck with BMWs older than five years. His dad has a 135i and his mom has an X3 on order. Go figure.
I like the Mustang, but the interior feels pretty cheap compared to my car, which is surprising.

Suggested that too, but he hasto have a convertible. That bastard.
We saw a 2000 M5 for $20,000 that we could have gotten, but he said no because it wasn't a convertible.

Absolutely impossible to find one for that price. If it needs to be four door, fun to drive and a manual, the Mustang GT is indeed the only logical choice. It may prove hard to find a manual but an 03-05 A4 vert might be in his price range.

where the hell can you find a 335ci for that kind of money??? lol maybe a 330ci, even those are pretty expensive.
OP, this probably isn't what you or your friend wants to hear but what about a saab 9-3 convertible?

Mustang GT is the best choice in that segment
Eclipse convertible = :ghey:
the 335i hardtop convertible is way too damn heavy. People are saying the V6 Camaro is slow (which it is) but the 335i convertible weighs almost 4000 lbs, 200 more than aforementioned car.. And yeah, IIRC Canada prices are even higher than US prices, so good luck finding a 335i convertible that isn't a crumpled up hunk of steel for $20k. And I haven't sat in the back of an E93 yet but I've sat in the back of an E46 vert on the way to a wedding, which was a lot of fun
Mustang GT convertible = the womens will come in droves. probably the dudes too, if that's his thing.

there really isn't may choices out there. Mustang is the only think I can think off. Maybe e46 3 series or e36 3 series. I just don't see that many convertables in Canada.
Why does he want a convertible in Toronto? For the three days a year that it's above freezing?
It's like the people who buy convertibles here....for the one day per year that it's not raining and above 75 degrees.

The kind that only drives it in the summer and won't be going to the track every weekend?
We'll try out the backseat see how it is. I doubt it'll make much difference to him. You'd be surprised at how warm it gets here in the summer. Canada isn't all snow and cold. Mostly, but not all.
