Ok so this past weekend I went back down to Charlotte, NC to pickup the car and bring it home for my the insurance adjuster to look at along with two possible body shops I like in the area to do the work.

The insurance company said it would be a few days before I would hear anything back but I am hoping I will hear back before he weekend as it is already getting past the time I want to get underway on the car.

Both body shops I took the car to yesterday said they do not believe the car would be totaled in their opinion.

I am not yet sure when I will be able to get this underway as I had planned to do most of the physical work my self but also realized I am not a welder so I will need to involve a shop to install the new rad support on the car.

Lastly., I have just recently got a job offer in Charlotte, NC and thus not sure what is going to happen with this car project now. It means most likely I will need to either let the car at home for the shop I feel most comfortable with to take care of or find an entirely new shop which I have no experience with down in Charlotte to do the work which kind of worries me. I have a huge connection of friends at home that work in the auto industry and pretty much zero connections in Charlotte. So I have now hit another snag in this project.

Will post back when I hear what insurance says about the car.

 

Damn Jason. At least it's not totaled! From what you said, I would take the car up to PA and let trusted mechanics fix it. It would be a huge risk taking your car to someone in Charlotte that you've never used before. Just my of course.

Still waiting to hear back the final word on the car but both the insurance agent and the independent appraisel place they hired said that it shouldn't be totalled. Since this I was given permission to tear appart the car of the damaged parts. I have removed the out side cosmetic parts and wanted to start drilling out spot welds but would have to remove the AC lines.


I have since stopped and will leave the rest to a local shop at home to finish. I have pictures from throught the tear down and will post them up this weekend. Also as to keep myself up over this whole shitty event I have a couple of small things I have done to the IS-F as well. They are small though so nothing to exciting.

WOW your car looked so sexy in the very beginning of the thread, i was like damn... then i scrolled down a ways and was like DAAAMMMMNNN...... That blows though, i bet alot of the parts that got trashed are hard to get too... Hope you're getting pazzaid...

 

Well got some more things taken care of with insurance so far and got my check now with almost all costs of the aftermarket parts included. No shipping or customs fees was calculated since that really can't be figured out ahead of time but they told me once I have all that info just submit it to them as it is an open ended estimate. Going to update the thread tonight or tomorrow with more indepth pictures from what I was able to tear down on my own of the front end. Still deciding what shop I wan't to send it to as well as the possibility of taking this time to do an MT swap and high boost setup for the supercharger.

 

So I said I would get some pics up that I took while tearing the car apart. There are not to many pics any most were I took at the end of each day of working on the car so there are not many in the process of tearing it down.

Day 1: Removed hood, hood latch, radiator cover, bumper, what was left of the grill, intake cover, and battery. Removed the hood latch so we could try and pry the rad support out but we had no luck.


Day 2 Part 1: Removed headlights, bumper reinforcement, and then tried to again force the rad support out but again we had zero luck. The drivers side headlight was a bitch as the rad support had forced it down about half an inch but it was enough to get the ballast caught in a hole in the body. Hopefully the ballasts will both still be in working condition when I get around to getting the car back together.




Completely trashed JDM Headlights. Hopefully the bulbs will still be good but at this point I have not checked yet.

Day 2 Part 2: After not being able to move the rad support again we removed the wipers, wiper cowl, and hood hinges. Had to put the battery back in to start the car to move it up on ramps to get the jack under as we were removing the fenders so we could attempt to drill out all the spot welds holding the rad support in place.

Both fenders removed from the car. Unfortunately even with both fenders off we couldn't get to all the spot welds as some are behind the A/C lines and the power steering hoses. At this point I decided I didn't want to deal with removing any of that stuff and the rest would be left to the body shop to deal with.


Look at those beautiful 9in Honda Time Attack ce28n with those silly skinny tires used to get that amazing flush look.


Day 3: I was not about to take the car to the body shop with the ce28 Honda Time Attack wheels on or any good wheels for that matter so I put the factory TSX wheels back on the car which looks really funny and makes the car look rather stock aside from being extremely low. The only reason they fit over the spoon calipers is because the 10mm spacers are still on the front of the car. They of course have to be there since I ended up shaving the studs down to 15mm.


Yes it is unfortunately curbed but it wasn't my doing as I had put them on the CL-S I had for school and then never taken them back off until about a week before this when my brother happened to need a new set of tires. I decided I want my stock wheels back and the factory CL-S wheels went back on the CL.




$900 worth of carbon fiber down the drain since that is the going rate for this intake these days and seeing as you can't just order the top to the intake but rather have to order the entire thing instead.

 

I basically plan to have the structural parts of the car fixed and all the cooling components and anything else needed to be fixed to get it up and running again.

Then the car would be headed off to a friends shop for an M/T swap and a high boost setup to be installed and then tuned. I want to do this before the body work is done so as to avoid any chance of scratching the hood, fenders, bumper, and headlights while doing the rest of the swap. I will probably even remove most of the interior so the shop does not have that to deal with either.

After that it will be back to the body shop to get the rest of the work completed.

The time frame to get this completed is probably crazy and will mostly depend on how long it takes the shipment of parts to get in from Japan as I will not be air shipping anything over other than the cooling parts needed to get the car back up and running.

I hope to get the car back on the first week of May but that is rather unlikely so my next hopeful time is the last week in June because I hope to be able to attend a show in Charlotte with the Car. Import Alliance is right after that show so hopefully I will make my June deadline.

 

Any update? Has the situation in Japan affected you at all?

Yeah man I hope you get that car back together and get the swap done too. That was/is quite an awesome TSX you've got there.

 

Life has been hectic with moving to NC and having started a new job in January. I only finally got around to ordering all the new parts this past week. Hopefully they should be arrive in about 3-4 weeks for most of the smaller parts. The hood won't be here for about 2-3 months as it is made to order and then has to be shipped across on a boat.

I also have found a salvage car with an MT and Nav that I am looking into purchase to do my MT swap and possibly a Nav swap. The car looks in decent enough condition with some of the OEM parts I have like hood, grill, bumper, and more I might be able to put the AT into the donor car and use it as a DD as well.

 

2 tsx's, NOW THAT'S A FANTASTIC IDEA. i sometimes regret selling my tsx for the s2000 as it was the most complete car i've ever owned.

Yeah if I were to keep it will have a salvage title for it and I will put the most basic insurance coverage on it. I hope to get it for maybe like 3-4k at most. It is an 04 with 150k miles on it so pretty much would be using the tranny for its case and then rebuilding it along with a new clutch and flywheel for sure. Still hoping for a June or July completion other than the hood but who knows.

Well I finally have some what of an update to give. I have finally secured a donor car for my project. My first order of JDM parts arrived about 2 months ago and the second just arrived Cali before the holiday this past week.

So here it is.






Next up is finalizing what shop will work on it and getting the rest of the parts for the rest of the crazy upgrades I have planned.

I will either continue this thread or probably start a new one once the actual rebuild begins.

Haha no they are not that cheap. I ended up not buying a salvage car but a perfectly good one. Basically with the cost of all the parts I need off this car I don't have an issue with taking a 2-3k hit when I turn around and sell it with an auto and base radio in it instead of MT and navi.

 

Your taking out the MT?.. wait what? You mean you're using this car as a donor car instead of swapping parts into this new TSX?

 

As of right now that is the plan sir
