Adaptive Brake Lights

This is officially referred to as "Emergency Stop Signal", and ECE Regulation 48 calls for the lamps providing the ESS to flash at 4 Hz when a passenger car decelerates at greater than 6 m/s2 or a truck or bus decelerates at greater than 4 m/s2.
Anybody though of doing this mod?
Is this approved for North America yet?

Seems pointless. If people actually paid attention to other cars they would see that said person in front is indeed slowing down very fast. Flashing lights only adds confusion.

There must be a reason why ECE came up/approved this new regulation.

Bumper-to-bumper collisions most often occur when the driver behind you didn't realize how hard you were braking. It allows those behind you to clearly see whether you're lightly tapping the brakes (brake lights lit normal) to slow down or applying full force for a sudden stop (flashes at 4Hz).

I'm sure they have their reasons but seems kinda stupid IMO. People rear end others because
1) They aren't paying attention.
2) They're following too closely.

I think it does make sense though. Many times, especially following larger cars which obscure the lane ahead of it (like the sprinter in the video), sometimes it is hard to see emergency situations or a stopped vehicle ahead of it. I'll admit I have had a few cases where this has happened and had a close call or two, especially in some cars which don't have the best brakes, you really have to pay attention to the car ahead.

thing is the public isn't aware of this, like i didnt know bmw implemented this. So it wont make a difference to the driver.

The best defense look ahead of the car in front of you and just know how fast you're approaching.
To bad teh avg person isnt smart enough to realize such things

Agree. The people in FL have enough of a hard time stopping at red lights....

I had installed a module to flash my brake light on my old cl

I noticed people stayed farther back from me, especially in stop and go traffic.

sometimes it just doesnt register just how fast you're decelerating. On more than one occasion have I seen people come to a screeching halt behind another car when traffic suddenly stops on the fwy. It's not a bad idea, imo.

I think more lights help under hard braking.

I hate following a car with only two brake lights with the 3rd brake light being burnt out. I can tell my reaction is slower because of it.

FYI, it says Video is private.

And yeah, this has been on motorcycles for some time. I know Mercedes and BMW have had some form of it for a bit now as well...

I try not to get behind those vehicles and change lanes as soon as I notice.

That is what people said before cars had airbags, seat belt and other modern safety equipment

They cannot change people, the only thing they can do is to improve on the cars so stupid people don't kill non-stupid people.

if this brake light can prevent 1 fatal accident then it is well worth it.

That's a completely different kind of safety device. This flashing brake light wouldn't have to be introduced if people paid attention to the road and not pointless other shit like their phone or makeup. If people didn't ride each other's asses that would help too, people seem to think that if you tailgate the person will drive faster and then they're surprised when they have to suddenly stop and rear end the person, when in reality it's their fault for following too closely.
