Exclamation Acura TL Type-S and a Pilot 3.5L engine swap

What's up guys, I have an 07 TL-S, and I have the convenience of working at a Honda Dealership (owner of this dealership owns Acura that's 50 feet next door) and I became good friends with the Acura Mechanics next door and I was wondering of reconditioning my engine like it just rolled out of the factory.. but then it dawned on me that my 3.5 Liter is still in most of hondas vehicles, Like the Pilot, Passport, RidgeLine and the odyssey... so in figured, why not put one of those in instead, if not the whole thing, maybe certain parts... 10 speed transmission on those things are insane, they all have all wheel drive except for the odyssey, which is only front wheel... thoughts on this???

Joe, I'm scratching my head on this one. Your 2007 TL-S has 286 horsepower and 256 lb-ft torque. I'm assuming you're not talking a brand new motor, so I looked up a 2015 Pilot and see it has 250 horsepower and 253 lb-ft. torque. That's 36 less hp and 3 lb-ft or torque.

I'm not a Honda or Acura technician, but I'd imagine the cost wouldn't be cheap for such a swap. And resale of your vehicle would be a question mark.

The 2015 TLX V6 has 290 hp and 267 lb-ft with a 9-speed automatic. IMO, trading/selling your TL-S (great resale) and buying a 2015 (or any year) TLX would be a much more realistic upgrade and if you wanted to tinker, you could mod it with 290/267 starting off as your baseline.

Just my 2 cents.

^ But then you're stuck with the (reportedly) awful TLX 9spd.
I haven't driven one, just seen the anecdotes here about it not being very good.

I've driven a 2019 MDX with the ZF9 for a week and didn't really notice anything odd. I did however drive numerous Jeep Cherokees (I worked at a FCA subsidiary dealership for a while) and that ZF9 always felt seconds away from dying.

Good point on the 2015 tranny. We had a 2016 MDX and the ZF9 was God awful. The shift points were all over the map. Our 2018 however, is MUCH better. So I know Acura cured the shirting of the ZF9 by 2018 in the MDX; I'm not sure if / when in the TLX.
