That list is subjective. When BMW's and many American cars are ranked above Acura, that is a subjective, non-objective list. I stick with Acura and Honda, period!

How do you know it's subjective when you don't even know what they used to measure "reliability"?

BTW, for the record, having owned four BMWs at this point, I have my doubts about the #1 ranking, as well.

You are more than welcome to share a reputable list where Acura is listed higher than BMW.

I said this in another thread but it really applies to this one as well:

There's no point in updating rankings or lists if we just assume things are status quo based on the merits of past years.

As long as they keep putting self-destructing rod bearings in the V8s, they will continue to have a reputation for reliability problems. Ask me how I know...

It's a good thing they're getting away from V8s then! Fuel economy is king so the top cars are maxing out at 6 cylinder these days!

Former 87 Excel GS 5MT owner here. It was my first manual transmission, as soon as I had a good handle on driving stick, I traded it for an 89 Plymouth Colt GT Turbo (a Mitsubishi built POS which was > Hyundai built POS.).

V8s are still in the 5, 7 and 8 series as well as the M5 and M8 (not to mention the X-Series counterparts). With as stressed as those engines are (especially the M ones), you'd think they'd do a little better job on some of the crucial long-term parts.

The point is, V8s are starting to disappear.

These days, you can't even find anything higher than a 4-cylinder C-Class (including the AMG)!

God, are we still on this? The only way the Big-Three will sell me a car is if they give me one and after 10+ years if I got reliable service from it, I'll pay them.

Car enthusiasts should read some books about the automotive industry.

Here's the famous SG video I've been talking about and one of the reasons I gave up on the TLX (skip to the 6:00 mark):

Ignore the fact this is a video for the MDX as the problem exists for TLX and RDX as well (I haven't heard any reports from the Integra).

So is this slip into neutral b/w 2nd and 3rd gear a reliability issue or a "feature"?

Real simple...neither. It needs a simple fix for an issue the engineers never knew about despite testing. You cannot test for everything.

I'm calling BS on this. I have never owned any other car that does this!

But I am sure you have had other cars with other problems.

Maybe it is time you sell your car and move on.

Way ahead of you. Got rid of the car nearly 8 months ago w/a year left on the lease! Been enjoying my X3 ever since!

My other cars have had problems, but none had my life flash in front of me when entering a highway!

Well BMWs or any other car is far from perfect. Remember cylinder issues in the M5 back in the 1990s. I have four BMWs, all on two wheels though.

And one day, you might have a total ignition failure while entering a highway.

If you have a BMW, why are you still on here?

I am in Car Talk. I was told this was a "safe space" for former owners like myself. I'm not the first former owner in this forum nor will I be the last.

Looking for good discussions amongst current and former owners alike.

All I own is BMWs and I'm still on here. You own a Porsche. Most of us in Car Talk have moved on from Honda/Acura. We just like the discussions here.

MBWorld is kinda dead but it's probably because there are fewer GLS450 owners. Bimmerpost is active, especially the X3 threads.

No one really talks about Acuras in these German sites (despite what some AZ members want to believe). As a matter of fact, I might be the only one even bringing up Acura!
