Acura minivan?!
Acura minivan?!
So, I'm looking through vtec.net, and there were some pictures of the new JDM Odessey and some of the vehicles coming out on the TAS2003, and I ran across this little sucker:
http://www.vtec.net/news_files/162473/asm1_tov.jpg
(sorry, don't know how to post the pic itself)
And I'm staring at this thing, and it looks pretty similar to the production Odyssey and looks pretty production ready. Then, I started to look at the face of the van and it reminds me of the Acura face.
I know, it's just upmarket van for JDM and possibly euro, but wouldn't it be a novel idea to bring this in as an Acura model? I mean, if there is a market for the luxury mini van? Chrysler T&C sold descently in its peak, but I don't know if anyone would go for a luxury mini van anymore.
Any comments? Any people angry with my stupid wondering mind?
Junkster, who thinks he's going to "get it" pretty soon.

Continuously Variable Tranny: In other words, they don't use gears, its kinda like they have infinite gears. Its weird, and I don't understand it. Anyway, a minivan would RUIN Acura's image, RUIN. No luxury marque in the US has a minivan, and OMG if Acura ever did, I wouldn't even want to think about their image.
no he meant gx
with a cvt cartest 2k claims a stock auto 1/4 in 15.4...0-60 in 6.98
.. that's with the stock auto 1st gear. If it was made a little more aggresive, like 3.0 instead of 2.65 you are talking a 14.98.
Of course you have to take any number with a slight grain of salt but i know they are pretty close toa ccurate.

there was a thread on problems and fixes about larch seeing "a weird icon" in his car. This was an artists rendering of the check engine light. Put it up as a joke...will change it up soon.
I believe the JDM Odyssey is in between the Latittude and the Step Wagon, with the Lagreat up on top. I wouldn't place much faith in the JDM Odyssey meaning anything for our Odyssey. When something happens to the Lagreat, we should listen.
As for Honda bringing it over, there was a reason they got rid of it in the first place. It was basically a wagon on steroids, pertty small for a mini-van.

for all you guys that want a CVT and think it will blow the doors off of a auto or manual... you are giving the engineers too much credit plus you will hate how the car sounds when trying to blow the door off an auto or manual tranny.
the CVT at the moment can't handle huge amount of stress so you are going to find it in cars that don't cater to people that want performance. For instance, my Civic Hybrid has it.
Anyway, here is what the car sounds like when reving it from a stop. The engine will go to red line and stay there (just below) until you lift off the gas. So it's a little unnerving. In fact the Audi CVT has a shift points programmed in to avoid this case.
So while your CVT works on getting up to a higher gear your engine is still hovering at red line. Also, it takes an instance for the computer to figure out what you are trying to do (at the start) so there is a slight delay but nothing major.

A couple of years ago, I stated for Infiniti to get off the ground, instead of trying (and failing miserably) to tackle the heavyweights head on, they need to go after untapped markets. Like the sport coupe market. The G35c has done WONDERs for them and the FX is another new market (Sports SUV) that is helping.
NO ONE has a luxury mini-van (Chrysler does not count). I am sure people are DYING to have a badge on their minivan to seperate themselves. I think it's an untapped market. Acura should look into this.

Sic, I agree, most of the Japanese luxury lines need to find niches. Even the euros all have niches in certain aspects. Acura should definitely hit up a low cost, sporty market, kinda like Audi. And a crossover minivan type would kinda add spunk to their line up.
Junkster, who would drive a fast mini van.
so i was bored last nite actually instead of studying i did 2 quick photoshops
well i raised it, shorten the rear and roof line, made the rims bigger
the all new acura (x)dx with 200hp I4 from the tsx and IMA 25hp electric motors on each rear wheel net HP 250, AWD, seats 5, 18-20 inch rims.

well it looks like its not working just copy and paste each of the addys

I noted on the VTEC matrix that there were still rumors of an Acura Odyssey. So I thought to myself, "Self - is this such a bad idea?"
Last year, the Odyssey sold 125,588 units, more than any of Honda's SUVs. This year sales are down 9.8% which puts it behind the CR-V. It should also be noted that all other Honda SUV sales are down but the CR-V.
On a related note, the Toyota Sienna also outsold the SUVs in its stable last year but this year was topped by the Rav4.
If Honda could take a risk on a RDX -- which comparatively speaking is an Acura CR-V {small SUV in the lineup} I think that this could work.
Add some perforated leather, HIDs/LEDs, ventilated seats, SH-AWD, 8 cylinder engine if they ever get 1, elaborate entertainment system ... they could also make it aggressive in appearance & performance, like the new MDX, to attract more male buyers.
Personally, I am still waiting for the Acura version of the Ridgeline, or maybe even Element. I wanna see it tricked out & proudly displayed in a rap video ... the Escalade is getting tired

The top of the line Odyssey touring already has every bell and whistle, so I don't see what offering a acura version of the mini-van is going to do other that having different badges on it...
Acura has said it want's to be a "sportier" brand in the past, and adding a minivan to it's lineup isn't going to help that... Adding a coupe might tho

i don't understand if Honda does this for 2 reasons.
#1. the Odyssey Touring dressed out as is
#2. why would you put a K motor in a mini-van. i can see it like in a CR-V or Element or RD-X.
only way i see putting a K series motor in something similar to a Odyssey is put in the RD-X motor.
