interesting OSP switching from Ford to Chevy

kind of a odd thread.

I was talking with my friend who works for Ohio State Patrol. he said effective 2008 model year their switching from Crown Vics(white) to 6.0 liter Tahoes.
I guess down at Dayton about 2-3 years ago a officer almost died due to a rear end collision it caught on fire and i guess it was due to Ford's design and Ford argued and argued. so Ohio state patrol didn't even offer them a bid on next round of cars.
he said their probably 90 or 95% Ford Crown Vics but he said it's gonna slowly be changing over the next 5-7 years.

Put down the crack pipe and step away...

Unless you can manage to break the laws of physics...they have over 2000lbs of weight difference between one another.

6.0l engine in the tahoe vs 4.6 in the ford

They'll be nowhere near equal in real world use. Especially when the cops floor the vehicle. Which of course never happens... they drive around like little grandma's all day long.

it depends on the the cops.
cause There's a good amount of Ohio state patrol on like i-70 or i-75 and they'll sit in the median and usually they won't pick you up unless your running (speed limit 65) 75 or better(i ran 72-73 past one he didn't pull out of anything) so to go from a dead stop in the median to pull out and catch up with those guys going 75-80 you gotta have something in the 300 hp range. cause if you got a dinky 4-cylinder you'll never catch em. . a sheriff dept near where i live bought i'd say atleast 10 Dodge Intrepeds with 3.5 H.O. motors i was talking with some officers about them. asking them if they hate them cause they have some 4 lane (65 mph speed limit) in their district. they also have crown vics. They said as far as speed and "giddy up" is the same as the 4.6 Interceptor Crown vics. HOWEVER handleing and space to put shit that's their only complaint.
another town near where i live has a 06 or 07 Impala with a 3.9 v-6 in it. the police chief wanted a Hemi Charger but the town voted v-6 Impala. I haven't seen it' "run" but 90% of the area is under 55 mph.

Im going to go out on a limb here and guess you have never seen the inside of one of them? They are tiny. The Chevy impalas have more interior room once outfitted with all the police gear. Our local police dept by our cottage hates the new charger squads. (im friends with the 3 cops)

That's true. Crown Vics has their metal gas tank placed behind the rear suspension and axle, and on rear-end impacts the tanks have been known to split...and dump fuel....and ignite.

http://www.crownvictoriasafetyalert....gnproblem.html

Fuel Safe actually makes a safety cell for those cars now, which can help the problem significantly.

I was commenting on gas mileage, I don't see anything about it in your reply...

I guess it depends on the area. I've seen more chargers with pursuit packages popping up in so cal. I've even seen a cal sta northridge police vehicle based on the magnum.
