The new performance-minded sedan will feature a 155-horsepower, 2.0-litre DOHC engine, which combines V-TEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) with VTC (Variable Timing Control) for the i-VTEC system which helps improve fuel economy and cut down on emissions.

I think it really sucks when Acura brings out a EL or CSX that looks no different than the Honda Civic. That is why the brand Acura does not match up anywhere close to Lexus or Infiniti. That is one thing I think Acura has screwed up on big time. They shouldn't even bring out the EL/CSX unless it looks completly different than the Civic.

All they have are the "high end" Acura models like TL, RL and MDX.

I think the front end looks quite different (and better) than the Civic sedan, but the real changes with a CSX are likely to be inside, under the hood, and under the car.
I believe the Civic has one colour interior, grey, unless you buy a white body, and looks pretty plain; anyone who has looked at a Canadian only EL knows that the interior is better looking. Going from memory, I thought that I read that the F/R sway bars are 19mm/10mm on the 06 Civic, but the RSX (which is based on the previous generation Civic) has a 25.4mm front bar, and a 19mm rear: it would be nice if the CSX, with the same weight, and engine as the RSX, came with some of its suspension savy. The press never seemed to think that Honda got the Civic suspension right, and complained that they kept changing it every year, still without getting it right.
The 06 Civic is reportedly no faster than the 05, despite the added power, but the 2.0L gives a torque:weight ratio that is IDENTICAL to a TSX's, at their torque peaks (except that the 06 TSX will have over 150lb-ft all the way from 5500 to 7100 rpm, too!). I'm guessing that the suspected 5-speed introductory transmission will be replaced in a year or two, by a 6-speed, when/if a hi-po CSX-S comes out.
What you have to remember is that it is getting increasingly difficult to modify your car's - either according to the police or your insurance company - suspension, or engine. It is, however, OK if you buy an A-Spec suspension, and well, the CSX already comes with the "hotrod" engine. If you think about how long Hondas last (my Civic Si went 287,000km), and all the things that people do to try to make their Civics go faster (intake, lowering springs, exhaust), I think that starting with a CSX is a great idea.

You have you entry level, mid and high end in a company. I beleive the purpose of ACURA to push such a line is to attack the the younger crowd. AS you can see, there is more CHEAPER low end cars on the road, like saturns, dodge, hyundai, dae woo. Companied dont need to push HIGH quality to make $$$. To have the rep of TOP NOTCH QUALITY dont bring in the $$$. Selling cars and meeting quote makes the $$$$. Thats jsut my u may see it other wise that since we all own acura's on this forum and u might think acura making lower end cars such as the csx DEVALUES the name acura but i dont think its that sensative. BTW i think the car actually looks ver nice. Clean and aggresive. I can see a high number of these cars on the roads in a fwe years with big aluminum wings and underbody spoilers. Bet they cheap too
The EL Premium is $2100 more than the Civic EX, and for that, you get heated leather seating and automatic climate control, in addition to the stuff found on the EL Touring (base). The EL actually has a nicer interior than the RSX.

This was the 2001-2005 Acura EL for you guys who don't know about it. The CSX is supposed to be a notch up from this.

^Touring interior with brown wood instead of blue wood.

well said young TL, half of the haters have never even seen a EL. A friend of mine bought an EL recently and drove it down to Chicago, I rode in it and drove it a few times, definitley not a "civic with leather seats."

Sure, it may LOOK like a Civic with leather and nicer trim, but it doesn't feel like a Civic.

It's noticeably quieter and I just remembered auto climate control was added to the Touring model for 2005, so you get that and heated mirrors too, plus a smoother ride for $700 CDN more. The cloth seats are also higher quality than the Civic cloth seats.

Driven one many times when my CL-S has gone in for servicing when I needed a courtesy vehicle.
Mind you, it's no CL but it's no Civic either.

Sorry dude I just can't see Acura market for a higher end over Honda for the same car what Honda is carrying. You don't see Lexus come out with something like a Corrolla but call it something else w/leather interior and a few other chgs. Or a Infiniti coming out with a better options from the Nissan Sentra. So what is the whole point of having the ACURA branding then???? For ppl that don't want to spend too much will go to Honda and for ppl who likes a step or 2 up will go to Acura. That is what I am trying to get my point across. By doing what Honda is doing really kills the reputation of the Branding Acura don't you think.

The other point with the EL was that when the last generation Civic (2001-05) was introduced, you couldn't get the 127hp engine with the 4-door, only in the coupe; 115hp was the most you could get. I guess that it was Honda's idea to bolster Acura business, given the weak Canadian dollar, and the premium cost of the other Acuras.
Well, it cost them at least one car, and I bought a Protege for the 2.0L, and the suspension, and the brakes.
