Accord or Altima?
Accord or Altima?
My girlfriends sister is in the market for a new car, and my vote for her was to go with an Accord. She likes the Accords but also likes the Altimas. I dont know much about the Altima, and was wondering what you guys knew about them. Which would be the best bet in the long run? Im going with the Accord on that but again I know nothing about the Altima. Are there and negatives or problems that go along with the Altima? Just looking for some feedback.
I believe Accord tends to hold the resale value better than Altima.
In my opinion, I like the look of a new Accord better than the big ugly nissan badge in front of the grille.
Just my $0.02

Nah, considering that your girlfriend's sister is probably not a crazy manual transmission driver that needs 260 horsepower at her fingertips, I would go with the Accord coupe, in either 4-cylinder or 6-cylinder. I like the interior of the Accord a lot better than the Altima, for a car with a great engine the Altima's interior is missing a few things. Plus, the Accord coupe in a 6-cylinder is pretty wicked fast (TL-S, anyone?) and I like the way it looks. Tell her to get it in black...

How much are you looking to spend? There are quite a few Accord models to choose from, but if you just want something to drive from point A to point B, either car will be good. Nissan, believe or not is very reliable, but it doesn't hold the value as long vs. the Accord. Also, there's a major recall recently on the Accord's air bags. That may be something to consider as far as craftsmanship..........

.
They improved the interior of the Altima a LOT for 2005. It's a tough call between both cars. The Altima is also a more fun to drive car, not to mention it's 175 HP owns the Accord's 160 hp. I would say the Altima is a more youthful car to be in..Accord is more family.

Nissan can build the hell out of an engine - just like Honda. They also use timing chains (not belts). I used to own and Altima and it was a rock steady car.
I'd say she should go test drive both. She'll probably gravitate to one or the other on her own.
They really are both good cars.

i would get the accord over the altima because i've had an altima before my TL. and i've been driving my brothers accord lately and i like it alot. but ultimatly i would go for the 04'-'05 maxima but that might be too expensive. so accord would be the best bet. and resale value is pretty good.

Tough call, price being equal I would probably take the Accord, but if you look at transaction cost the Altima puts you a couple of thousand ahead from the start, which either means 2,000 in the pocket (or less interest) or 2k in options. In fantasy world I think the Honda wins but in the real world where price is a serious issue for most the Nissan makes a strong argument. Between the two it is what she likes best.

my friend has a 2004 Altima 3.5 SE. It is wondefully fast off the line, which is good. We are talking about '05s now, and I like the exterior look of the Altima a lot more now. What I hate about the Altima (and all Nissans but the Z) is the cheap^10 interiors
. The Accord interior is much better. If she wants quality, reliability, and a comfortable ride (which both have)...
go with my car's cousin
. The Accord doesn't make C&D's 10 Best for no reason. It beats the competition (although the Altima wins the "big bulky family cruiser drag race, hands down
)

-Better fuel economy (Accord I4: 24/34, Altima I4: 23/29); V6 models have similar numbers (Accord V6: 21/30, Altima V6: 20/30).
-4-cylinder models just as fast, if not faster, than Altima 4-cylinder, despite having 10hp less and weighing slightly more.
-5-speed automatic available on all models (Altima 4-cylinder must make do with a 4-speed)
-Not as torque steer prone as the Altima.
-Longest running model on Car & Driver's 10Best list.
Altima:
-Cheaper.
-V6 model is faster (only because Accord doesn't come with manual in sedan form and V6 Altima isn't much faster)
-More interior room
IMO, the pros for the Accord outweigh those of the Altima.

I'll add more to the Altima pro's:
Has a longer powertrain warranty then the Accord.
20 gallon gas tank for longer drives, whereas the Accord only holds 17.1 gallons.
You can get 8 way power driver's seat on the base Altima, the Accord you have to step up to a V6 model.
Base Altima comes with standard 16” wheels, Accord comes with 15” wheels.
Base Altima has rear disc brakes, base Accord has drum rear brakes.
Altima handles better then the Accord.
