Nope.

You can not negotiate the price.

WYSIWYG.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think they might be willing to play with the price of a trade-in a little, which may make the total exchange a bit more appealing. I've known some people who have gotten excellent deals out of there, you just have to do the research ahead of time.

Its painful to go to the Carmax around here, its next to a Ferrari dealership...

Must be a southern thing. We don't have a Carmax up here in the Northeast.

I bought my CL out of South Carolina through Carmax. Set up the transfer through their website. Don't worry about trade-in negotiating though. They won't offer you anywhere near what your car is worth. Example: My '91 Camry with 235,000 miles on it. BB value was about $1000, they offered $500. But with the additional fees they wanted I was only going to net $150. Sold the car to my sister for $800 and she sold it 2 years later for $1200 (with 285,000 miles and still running strong).

They offer a No haggle and Firm price..thats why you'll see them better than the dealers, but at the dealers you can play, and when the sales managers having a good day, you can play real good.

Helped a friend buy a truck about 2 years ago. Went to a carmax, left shortly thereafter. After selling cars, I did not like how they do business. And everything is over-priced for no haggle.

Carmax, all I know is that those fools wanted $4,900 for my '95 Land Rover with 111,000 miles. I sold it (after 2 months of wait) for $8,200!!!

Bad memories of Carmax, but they usually sell their cars (sticker price) for less than some independent dealers-

Carmax is only in a few states. I sold my moms POS car to them. They gave me $1500 for it. Book was $2100 so in this market I got a great deal.

If you do your research you will find that they are average at best. You CANNOT negotiate with them as you can a dealer. I just bought a 2001 CL-S with 29K miles and Navi for $21,500. They originally wanted 25K. Also, they will not give you anywhere near your trade in value. Also, Carmax is bullshit. They only get data from insurance companies, so if your car was in an accident and not reported, or was claimed on someone else's insurance, your not going to get any info from Carmax. The only value (in my personal opinion) that Carmax has is the ease of selling your car and getting another one.

New and used, Carmax prices are great for comparison purposes, and a good starting point.

They can have hard to find cars in their inventory.

I almost bought a 99 M Coupe from them in 2000. It was 5-6k less than local listings. They wanted a deposit and loan application before I could drive it. Next day it was gone before I get there with a loan from my bank.

Looks like I had a similar experience with them as many others when I still lived in Maryland. I was trying to sell a '96 Subaru Legacy with 96k on it. They offered me 3 thousand for it at which I point I walked away. I ended up selling it for $6700. Do yourself a favor. If you have a car you're trying to get rid of, try selling it privately first. If you can't unload it, you can always get screwed by them later.

I can ASSURE you that CARMAX does in fact sell crashed cars. Im an idiot that fell for their sales pitch and now i paid $2000 for an extended warranty that does me no good.

It does me no good because their "technicians" are a bunch of idiots!! They are not technicians and they are not what we think of when we say mechanics, they are simply "PARTS REPLACERS". I have an exhaust leak and a windnoise in my passenger window and i have taken my car to them 6 times for a total of 25 days with no rental car (i dont have full coverage so they wont give me one).

Monday morning i will contact the better business bureau because their corporate office cant even help me, they too are retards that are only there to take my yells.

BOTTOM LINE is every car dealership has its flaws, but this one has MAJOR flaws which do not JUSTIFY their "NO VASELINE" prices!!!!

I hope someone from carmax is reading this so they can tell their store!

PS i bought it in the Miami store and my last name is garcia, theyll know who i am!

I just used the FT lauderdale one. Wanted to see what my 6 speed was worth. They were only going to give me $15,500. That was becasue the car had mods on it, & they make the same claims every dealer syas about aftermarket mods voiding warrantys. So they claimed they couldn't sell it on the lot casue they couldn't honor the warranty(LOL) I said thanks, & went on my way

Not as bad as people think

I have purchased my last two cars from their Norcross (GA) location. Did not have a bad a experience at all. I find the new car dealerships liars and crooks when it comes to buying a car. Carmax does not add on extrs parts in order to make extra money. They tell you the price up front. I have spent hours at normal dealerships and walk away because of their BS. At Carmax, I test drove the car I wanted, went home and did more research, found that their price was better than any one elses and purchased the cars and went home happy. I have seen friends buy cars from traditional dealerships and they had regrets because they got screwed in some part of the deal. I would have to agree with everyone, sell your car on your own....it saves you money and in the end gives the dealers less of a chance to screw you over.

I just went to Carmax the other day to see what they'd give me for my car (06 Civic Si with nav). They only offered $17k. I now have it on Autotrader for $21k (though I would take $19500)....
