AAA (Triple A)
Now that the Murano is out of warranty, I'd like to pick up a service for towing, etc.
I can just add it to my auto policy or perhaps AAA?
Curious who here has AAA, is it worth it? What is the fee, etc?

I just paid $92 for AAA for myself and my wife for 12 mos. of coverage.
I also get discounts on car rentals and hotel reservations.
And, if you let your coverage expire, but you need a tow ASAP, you can pay your yearly fee over the phone they'll send a tow...even on Sundays...

2) I have AAA and also insure the house and cars through it. AAA is less than $50/year for a standard membership (7 or 8 mile free tow limit), about $100 on the up -level (100 mile free towing limit). Beyond hotel discounts, the AAA card also provides discounts at amusement parks and about 10% off at various stores, restaurants and theaters, which can add up.
However, the biggest benefit is with the home and auto insurance- I have yet to find any company that comes close as far as price for the same policy limits/benefits. I had the auto insurance for 15+ years, and the homeowner's insurance for about 10 years.

Is what you have regular AAA, or AAA Plus? Because I had regular AAA and needed to be towed about 10 miles and the truck driver said he would usually have to charge me for the extra miles. I had just bought him a cup of coffee and tipped him so he didn't.
I had my old Maxima towed about 80 miles and the CL was towed about 30 at one point, and 20 another time.

I dunno, I thought it was regular...but I might be wrong...
The transmission went out in my "trusty" CL-S in the middle of North Dakota...I had to have it towed 110 miles to Fargo N.D.

I would get AAA opposed to getting it through your own insurance company.
I learned something interesting when doing research for a paper for a class last quarter....

We have all received those offers in the mail from AAA for their Roadside Assistance program, which advertises peace of mind for traveling the open road. While it is easy to see the need for such services, it can seem tempting to choose a similar plan through your auto insurance carrier in order to save money. After all, this only adds about $3-10 to your insurance bill on a six month policy. Similar coverage will cost you $50-100 per year through a company like AAA. Surely insurance is a better deal, right? Think again!
What you may not know is that insurers keep track of your roadside assistance claims and in some cases, you may find yourself paying a higher premium if your car blows a tire one too many times. While it is unlikely that a one-time jump start will raise your rates, many insurers consider roadside assistance claims as one predictor of risk, which can impact premiums. Remember the money you thought you were saving by using your auto insurance instead of AAA? You can kiss that money good-bye.
In addition, automobile towing claims are reported to a national database run by Atlanta-based ChoicePoint, which provides insurers with claims information on consumers to help insurers process insurance applications. This database is checked each time you apply for a new policy in order to determine whether or not you have been truthful in regards to your application. However, it can be nearly impossible to distinguish a towing claim made for roadside assistance from one made after a motor vehicle accident. This means that flat tire you had that required a tow could make future inquirers think that you were in an accident you did not fully disclose. Interestingly, Choicepoint does not keep a record of towing claims made through companies like AAA.
These reasons alone are reasons to choose AAA over your auto insurance provider, but also keep in mind that AAA offers discounts on hotels, car rentals, and other travel expenses which can quickly add up. Plus, you can be guaranteed that your insurance premiums will not increase, and your records will be kept private. That kind of peace of mind is worth a little extra money to me. Is it worth it to you?

I used to have it, but didn't keep it up... CL has been out of warranty for a few years now, but as it's getting older, I'll probably sign up for AAA plus again...
I found that it was pretty helpful back in the days when I drove junk...

Get the AAA plus. 100 miles free towing, lockpicking etc. I have never needed to use AAA lockpick for my own car. But i have used it about 30 times for friends cars, even a customer once when I worked at sports authority. guy locked his keys in his car with it running in the parking lot. Store was just about to close. So I did the good deed and call AAA to get him back in his car.

Be aware that AAA limits the number of service calls per year to 4 or 5. I originally got it for the wife and kid for when I travelled for work. We now have the plus membership.
I almost hate to admit that I've turned into my grandfather. I've been a member since 1978. I also have the auto insurance and don't even accept quotes from other companies. I'm that happy with the service on claims.
