'98 Lexus GS400 or '01 CL-S w/ Navi ?

Here's the dilemma: I've got a '01 CL-S w/ Navi that has around 18k miles on it which is still stock. I got to be honest, I'm really not that happy with the manumatic and even though the CLS is fast for its category, it's still lacking in power (due to weight of car), so I was looking to find a used '98 or '99 twin turbo Supra with a 6 spd. Talk about hard to find. Well to make a long story short, couldn't really find any Supras to my liking, but did find a '98 Lexus GS 400 with low miles(27k) for around $32k (I know I can talk down the price...private owner). So should I sell my CL-S and get the GS400 or buy comptech headers for the CLS (do you really feel a noticeable difference with headers?) and keep it for a few more years then maybe pickup a used '01 or '02 M3 or even a Nissan Skyline (if it's released here officially in the States)? Oh by the way, this GS 400 doesn't have the Navi. Kinda gotten spoiled by having it.

I am probably going to sign my own death warrant here, but still, get the GS400, the ride quality is amazing, its fast, its agile, it will beat CL-S w/headers, the comfort is amazing, but if you decide to go with it make sure its in a very good condition, because those things are expensive to fix.

My brother has a 98' GS400....stock. When we raced, he had about a half a car on me. I think that with headers, the CL-S should be able to hold if not beat by a little a GS400.

GS400 is a nice car, but you will deffinetly take a bath trying to sell the CLS. Do you have any mods on the CLS? I think if you spend some cash for springs, sways, headers, you should really be a happy camper and could easily blow a gs400 away. You will get 4 drs with the GS, but loose the Navi. Plus GS is already used, while you have a newer car. You also have a warranty with the CLS, but GS's warranty will expire soon.
Just some thoughts for you.

I think GS400 is a nice car, but the cost vs what you get is not worth it in my opinion.

Keep the CL-s with Navi... put headers and springs and sways in... save your self some cash and in a couple of years lease a M3...your setting your self up for high repairs soon.... unless you have tons of cash to blow...

There's your answer right there. NEITHER! If you're not happy with the CL-S tranny what makes you think the GS400 is gonna be any better - it's still an auto!! Especially if you were previously looking for a 6spd Supra? Keep the CL-S until you can find a suitable manual tranny car. Plus, the GS400 is faster, but not THAT much faster.

The GS400 weighs over 3800 lbs and is an auto too. But it seems like a good deal even if you could get the car for $32K and it only has 27k miles on it. That is only 9k more than what you have in ur CL-S right now. Also there are some SCers out there for the GS400 (98-00) that can boost the sucker to over 400hp. Up to you but if you are looking for a manual tranny, the Z is coming out next year, S2000 is good, used porsche, etc. Keep us updated!

i'd go for the gs400 if ur really not happy w/ the cl-s, although i still think they're in the same kinda class, luxury w/ sport. now if you're looking for real speed and handling...get the m3...and for mid to high 30s, you can get a used skyline r32 i think...from motorex...starting is around 30+K

Damn, that's a really good price on the GS400 but you'll be taking it big time on your CL-S.

well, its funny cause this was my delema lasst year at this time. i wanted the gs400 soo bad that i cvould taste it, i had a dealer in NY tryin to get me a 98 Gs in red, for under 40grand and then i would drive my maxima to ny and drive the gs home to Fl. it was soo close but he couldnt finalize the deal to get it to his store and then sell it to me. i loved that car and wanted it sooo bad, but since i couldnt get it, th ecl-s was next best thing. if i had the chance on my next car of either a 03 cl-s, TL-s or gs430, the GS430 is what ill be drivin next! get the Gs400, its a phat asss ride.

GS400 is nice. Great tuner market; however, a stock GS400 is not as fast as you think. Possibly fast on the streets, but on the track, our CL-S will beat it depending on who launches better.
