80 in a 55 + double zone = ??

its not for me. my step sister just started driving about 5-6 months ago. she got pulled over in jersey shore PA. doing 80 in a 55 plus it was a double zone. she has court today. im going with her to try and get the points knocked off. ive dealt with tickets before and going to court, but never a double zone. is there a chance they will still bargain with her or will they frown upon that and make her deal with the whole thing??

Not sure what to tell you. If it was a construction or school zone, then it may be hard. If it were me, I'd get a lawyer to help with the points getting knocked off. But if you think you can get them knocked off for her without an attorney, then go for it. Does a ticket in a double zone mean double points too?? If so.....ouch.

First time my son or daughter speeds like that, she's getting grounded and driving privileges taken away.

That's exactly what my parents said to me when I started driving....one ticket and my license is taken away.

Good luck with court.

She's been driving for 5-6 months and already got a ticket for going 80 in 55? Not very responsible...

This is one reason I'm glad they made me buy my own car/insurance. They can't take what they don't own and if I mess up, well then I've gotta take the consequences.

edit: to the OP, definitely get a lawyer - they can try to get points reduced, and maybe get her off with a warning - Good luck!

That's a good idea. They can have a longer history of careful driving too! I'm going to make my kids pay for their own insurance!

Yep me too; then they'll realize the consenquences if they fuck up. One ticket should straighten them up real fast if mommy and daddy aren't paying for everything.

It actually helps them to build an insurance "history." I was glad when I moved away from home and already had established ins., I would have been charged more if that was my first policy. Also, you don't open yourself up to liability, which is the main reason for doing this - you can lose all you have b/c your kid causes a wreck, it's really sad.
