7:25 Nürburgring time Nissan GT-R V-Spec

Nissan GT-R V-Spec lap times stun observers

The prototype Nissan GT-R V-Spec, wearing the "Victory Specification" designation reserved for the ultra high-performance Nissan GT-R, has been caught lapping the famed Nürburgring at an incredible, if not simply unbelievable, 7:25 per lap. This, according to bystanders trackside. (For comparison, Walter Röhrl lapped the Ring in 7:28 while driving a Porsche Carrera GT in 2004.)

In contrast to the standard Nissan GT-R, that made the run around the 'Ring in 7:38, the GT-R V-Spec has a new front splitter, modified rear spoiler, and different wheels. A more extensive use of carbon fiber has reportedly reduced the weight by upwards of 330 pounds. Of course, Nissan engineers also tweaked the twin-turbo powerplant for another 70 horses...

YES OF COURSE!!!!!!!!! who cares, so when you got your babe sittin next to you, her hair blown into a tangled mess after 2 straight hours of spirited driving along the countryside, you croon your neck in her direction and unabashedly yell "THIS CAR IS ALMOST ONE MINUTE FASTER THAN THE AUDI R8!!!!!!!! WHAT'S UP NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!" now THAT's a feeling!!!!!!!!

wow 13 second faster than the base GT-R in the Ring? That is ridiculous. I though the CGT did the Ring in 7:32?

That was by another driver. Walter Rohrl is Porsche's official test driver.
We shall end the comparaisons here. The only aspect where they might come close to each other is their lap times on the ring, period.

pagani zonda with sticky tires ran it in 7:27.82 and it has 645hp and 2706 pounds

Seriously, this time makes me question on who actually took it. If Nissan truly pulled this off them

- ~350lbs
+ ~70hp
+ aerodynamics

This was to be expected. But its still an amazing feat. I'll wait for official times, but good god - if its +/- 2 seconds within 7:25, then we really should bow down to Nissan.

Hats off to them. The car, plain and simple, whoops the shit out of machinery that costs 3-4X as much. Not to mention, we're talking about machinery from manufacturers who plain and simple boast to no end about the kind of "race" tech their cars have - i.e. Ferrari, Porsche

At least Lambo makes no pretentions about its cars' racing abilities - you buy one to be flamboyant and they know it.

I have a magazine that talks about that time by the Zonda. The tires used were stock P-Zero's, not even close to being slick tires. They spent 2 days trying to set a record, but they ran into many problems. According to Marc Basseng who was responsible was setting the lap record for the Zonda, there are many factors that can affect the lap time, even surface temp alone can cause 10+ seconds of difference. Marc Basseng is currently a FIA GT racer and has raced in the Nurburgring 24hr Endurance race since year 2000, but it was his first time driving a Zonda.

Back to the problems that they encountered. The car was too low. The clutch was malfunctioning. It was raining for the first day (again they only had 2 days at the track). The next day, they only had 1 hr of time to set a record. On the next day, it rained. But they ran the car anyways, they did 2 warm up laps, then a full lap. And one of the laps, they set the record of 7:27.82, which is 0.2s faster than Carrera GT. Later, they checked the tire pressure, and ran again. At the middle of the track, the Zonda was already 4 seconds faster than the previous time (7:27.82), unfortunately, the car had some problems again, the fuel line was leaking. According to Marc, it wouldn't be a problem to get 7:20 in that run. After the repair, it was already too late, so there was no time to run again.

Sorry for this long post, but I feel that it's not very fair to compared to the Zonda since it only had 2 days for testing, it encountered many problems which wasted a lot of time, and the wet condition of the track.

damn..beating a Porsche Carrera GT is no easy feat. Most supercar makers have to put 1001 HP to do that.

This has to be BS no way in hell this car beat the time of a Zonda F which ran 7:27.

if the alleged time was taken by "observers" - it is most likely a flying lap - i.e. people standing at some corner timing the car as it goes by..
