We used to own two Acuras back in the day, Legend and Integra. Then we had a European car lapse (Land Rover, BMW). Now, we've learned our lessons and are back to two Acuras in the garage. The Legend is a true classic that will last. I wish they'd get rid of the RL name and call it a Legend again.

You better get cracking on the other 500,000...and you better let Honda know about it:

There was another 1M mile Accord that was in a Washington Post article a few years back. A Honda dealer in Rockville MD bought the car and it's in their showroom. I think it was a 5G.

This is completely AMAZING. I am looking at a 2005 6 Speed with 140K miles on it and this gives me hope. I drive about 40K miles a year and all you read about these cars is the problems they have like the BHG, etc. To hear what this one has accomplished is truly refreshing!

It kind of disappoints me that digital odometers will never 'roll over' to all zeros. Once they hit 999,999, they just stop.

Yep. It's been reported by numerous people.

I've heard some manufacturers that have their digital odometers stop at 300,000 and among those is the Toyota Prius although I don't know which generation.

Will be checking in on Friday for the 500K

Costco 11-03-2011 03:25 AM

Instantly made me think of the Y2K craze. Can't think of why they'd stop it at 300k, imagine it's not because of the same supposed reason though.

:woot: The final stretch!

I hope Honda does something awesome for you at their HQ.

Probably b/c they figure you'll be sick of buying batteries by then and will just scrap the thing for a new one :chuckle:

Amazing post- plus, an amazing car that's obviously well cared for- if it completely disintegrated in your driveway today, you really got your money out of it. It owes you nothing. Best of luck on the next 500K miles.

Well done- very classy ride!

From his blog @ http://drivetofive.wordpress.com/

Odometer: 499,964

It’s “500k Eve” – as I settle in for the night in Hollywood on the verge of a very big mileage accomplishment for my old Acura. The car sailed along Interstate 10 westbound from Phoenix just as smoothly as it has probably 50 times before. This stretch of road is a familiar one for the old Legend. We did sit through about 45 minutes of construction delays near Palm Springs.

I’ll do my best to bring you some of the day’s festivities via photograph and video after the big occasion.

See everyone tomorrow!

Guess we'll have to wait until Sat to see 500K (and a new Acura?).

If you're still short a few miles from hitting 500K, you could always do some donuts at some parking lot like Justnspace. Just don't get pulled over.

+1. The stories of people's reactions to RLs rebadged as Legends are pretty amazing. Reminds you of the legacy Acura has built.

cjTL 11-04-2011 10:03 PM

^I don't think the RL is worthy of the Legend's name. There is nothing special about the current Acura RL.

Hey everyone!

Sorry for the delay in responding - I've been internet-less except for on my phone since last Thursday night. Plus it's been non-stop craziness. I just got home from LA. The 500k went over EXACTLY as planned. Total precision on behalf of the planning team at Acura. Can't say enough about how impressed I was with the level of hospitality demonstrated toward me and all of the friends and family members who celebrated with me.

I'm back in Arizona already now, that old 500k milestone is long gone in my rearview mirror. Acura is paying my maintenance expense from now until the end of 2012, so that only means one thing: They want this baby to keep getting driven. And I'll gladly oblige.

Watch for a blog post in the next couple of days where I'll discuss the day's events in more detail. Thanks for following the story!
