If you ever make it out to New York City or Boston, you have to let me know. I have to see this car in person. Good for you man, you're a huge inspiration to keep my TSX running and looking that good. Keep up the great work.

You might want to check the gears on your odometer to make sure they don't sheer off lol

Do you plan on giving the car any gifts come 500K? Aside from a well-deserved new clutch, of course. :D

What's up Tyson... I have been following your 500k journey for quite some time. It will be here before you know it. Congrats in advance.

We're just surprised that he didn't go through 10 transmissions, 5 sets of leather seats, paint is not all faded off and the rattles did not drive him nuts yet. Did I miss anything?

Wow for the amount of miles that's been put on, your car looks amazing!

Blog looks great too! I'm going to have to sit down one day and read through your posts. Can't do it now since I'm at work.

Let's see that 500k mark!

Its not a 2g tl/cl so its not surprising that he hasnt gone thru 10 trans :tomato: Paint is no surprise either if taken care of :2cents:

That'd be the pits for sure! What if it get stuck at 499,999.9?

The long term goal is actually a full cosmetic rework. The paint's great everywhere except the top of the trunk lid and the rock-chipped front end. It's enough to justify a full repaint though. I'll be reinstalling the factory Bose head unit and removing the aftermarket Pioneer stereo. Next timing belt and water pump is at 517k so it really doesn't need anything maintenance wise right away.

There are plenty of people who've been here before. A quick search on YouTube for "500000 miles" will bring back multiple videos of people who've reached the milestone, in Hondas as well as other cars. There's also "Million Mile Joe" - the guy in Maine with the 1990 Accord pushing 1 million. But I don't know if any of those people are still rolling on an original engine, transmission, clutch, axles, struts, rotors, exhaust system. They may not also have receipts and records dating back to the vehicle's very first oil change like I do. My 3-ring binder of chronological receipts is overflowing.

1 transmission. Leather seats were redone in 2003. Paint could use some TLC. Rattles are actually not too bad. I'd say this car's a survivor ;).

Interestingly enough I'm just having the original rotors machined today. They've been machined once or twice before (I'll have to check the records) but they are most definitely the ones original to the car in 1994.

Yeah Arizona can definitely give paint finishes a sunburn, but this car is thankfully garaged both at home and at work, so that's part of the secret to keeping it decent after all these years & miles.

Thanks everyone for the comments!

te3point5 09-20-2011 03:53 PM

Where do you go for service? I bet they have a hilarious initial reaction when they say "Mileage?"

I unfortunately don't have the discipline to bring a car to even 100,000 miles, let alone 5 times that.

Hwy miles are the single best miles for a car. Id rather own a car with 80k hwy miles than a car with 30k city miles. You can get a lot of parts to last longer when most of the miles are hwy vs city. :2cents:

PortlandRL 09-22-2011 01:23 AM

We had a Pilot come in today that might just beat the Legend for number of miles accumulated in a short period of time. Here are the stats: One-owner 2005 Pilot EX bought new in October, 2004. No wrecks, original engine and transmission; body is straight and interior is clean. I had to do a double-take when I got in the car as it's by far and away the highest-mileage car I've seen but not only that, it starts and runs like it's brand new.

Ready??
http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/...Hi-MiPilot.jpg

Gfaze 09-22-2011 02:10 AM

Damn almost 48K miles a year? I've owned my car since October 2006 and I've only driven it 60K miles.

PortlandRL 09-22-2011 03:00 AM

That's 1,000 miles a week, every week for seven years. That's 143 miles every day! :what:

Legend2TL 09-22-2011 03:17 AM

^ No where near that but my wife's 2003 Pilot has 191K on it. Owned it new since 2002, very reliable and only two small problems. We plan to keep it at least 7-8 years, glad to know they last awhile.

Majofo 09-22-2011 09:53 AM

soly shhit that nucking futs. Original transmission.. bullshit.

fsttyms1 09-22-2011 11:06 AM

I once put on 119k in one year on my Z71 pickup and i put on just shy of 100k in one year on my 99 civic SI. I typically average 50k or so a year but having 2 vehicles kinda splits the mileage up a little more now.

Mr. Maker 09-22-2011 11:12 AM

Great work!! 193 and counting on my 99 TL

If it's all highway (which it almost certainly is...the cruise control indicator was burned out), I have an easier time believing it.

Costco 09-23-2011 02:52 AM

I love driving, love, love, love driving, but I hate swamp crotch much more so that kind of limits my driving. Dunno if I'd be able to stand driving that much unless it was on open roads. I used to drive around with no destination for fun, but since gas went up I began to realize it was a huge money sink.

:agree: I'd have an easier time believing 300k hwy miles than 150k city driving on original transmission of that generation Honda/Acura.

Air conditioned seats

are amazing.

The problem is that most cars out on the road today don't have them, which includes the 3 cars I drive. Even better for swamp crotch, I remember a lot of older GM cars had HVAC vents underneath the steering column that you could point right at your junk. Shame that that's absent in new cars.

My sister's ES had them.... heavenly when you're driving on a road trip for hours on end.

next automaker that makes a car with a crotch vent and ventilated seats, I'll buy it..... GO!
