450MPG Electric Car
If a student can build this why cant the automakers...smh. oh wait..they got the Nissan Leaf or something like that. I bet one of the auto makers will buy this over and hide it so far up there ass that the public will forget about it.

It's easy to say that you can build a car that will get 450MPG but just look at it. Where will you fit the groceries, where will you strap in the baby seat, carry your wife? What happens when a Hummer crashes into it? Does it have airbags or crumple zones? You can rip on the automakers about not making a car that gets amazing mileage but look at all the things they have to deal with. People want cars that have heated and cooled leather seats, audio systems that will make your ears bleed, enough airbags and driver aids so as to be able to drive while twittering and updating your facebook without worry. The reason todays cars get shitty fuel economy is the constant demand from the consumer for safety and luxury.
That's not to undermine the effort that went into this project. It's very commendable but don't think that because some students can create something like this that the auto makers are sitting on their hands.

That is just a prototype. If this was made into an actual car the body of the car will look different. Enough room for the kids, wife etc. I think they are sitting on there hands and not doing jack about it.
