Excuse me for my ignorance, but for those that have Snap-on tools, are they worth spending the $$ over other good quality tools i.e. Craftsman? I just cant see spending $260 on a 80 piece socket set, when you can get a 300+ set from craftsman for that much $$.

Snap is a great brand and you do get what you pay for... But Craftsman is a good product also, and if anything ever goes wrong just bring it back for a new one as most of it's line of products have lifetime warranties.

I used a breaker bar of a certain brand and it broke, while the snap on breaker bar just flex a lot and was able to break lose the bolt.

nice deals, but i Prefer Craftsman. When i need a new tool or break one i dont have to wait for the truck. I just go to the store and get what i need.

I'm not sure how accurate this is but my shop teacher told me they were all made at the same place and they are just stamped with the brand. I use craftsman and I'm perfectly happy with them.

That's probably true...as most stuff are made from the same company but stamped with different names, ie walmart brands vs. k-mart or target brands. All the same stuff with just different names!

Snap-On makes their own hand tools. I'm not sure about their larger power or electronic tools. If you ever watch "How it's Made" on TV they've segments on Snap-On ratchets, sockets, wrenches, and screwdrivers.

Craftsman hand tools IIRC are made in the US but not by Snap-On.

Vast majority of my tools are Craftsman.

^1 same here, although a few of the teeth on the pawl gear broke so occasionally it would slip a 1/8 turn.

Just bought another one from HF, it has worked very well.

Hearing the praise for Craftsman makes me feel like I'm reading this thread in 1981. Craftsman used to be top quality; my dad used to swear by the brand. I've stopped buying it, however. Quality just isn't there anymore. It really is mass produced stuff. The exact same items that you get in red and grey can be had at Canadian Tire in blue and grey...that's the extent of the differentiation. I can't comment on Snap-On, but you won't see me singing Craftsman's praises anytime soon.

And my Craftsman lawnmower...it's guided me towards the creation of an entire vocabulary comprised only of profanity.

But they used to be good.

Craftsman makes a good product, but Snap on is at a higher level. Using these tools everyday, I can vouch for it.
Snap On makes great hand and air tools, but I wouldnt necessarily drop the money on other specialty area tools.

I like Cornwell also.

Craftsman in my garage and home as well. Snap-On is quite good but I don't want to spend the coin.

For basic hand tools - screw drivers, pliers, etc - Ill go to Harbor Freight and stock up.

For air tools and torque wrenches, Snap On. Although I do have some Craftsmen air tools as well as Cobalt, and they work fine.
