2nd car

Hey guys so I just got done talking to my parents about getting me a better car (more because I want a manual transmission) and I was looking into dodge darts. What your guys's thought on the Dodge Dart manual transmission between the years of 2013-2016 looking to get one under 15k. Is there a better car you recommend that has stick shift or is this a good car itself ?

I drive a 2009 Nissan rouge SL right now, it's about to come up on 100k miles soon

I don't really like FCA cars, but to each his own. Accord sport might be a good option.

I love them. And the dart has the best interior in its class for that year.

That said...I would probably probably pass on the dart. If you want a car you can learn how to wrench on, get an older manual transmission Accord or Cvic.

again, what is your goal for the dart?
do you want to modify it?
or do you want to keep it maintained?
What do you want out of a vehicle????

I'll go with the above mentioned Accord Sport. Or a manual Civic.

Well mu goal currently for the dart if I were to get it is probably just blacked it out which doesn't do much, probably add a better exhausts kit due to sound, and maybe in the future tune it up a bit to make it quicker and add more horse power. Do you think this car would be good to work on, and maintain it myself as in do my own oil changes, etc

Get a Civic SI. Cheap parts, easy to work on. There is also loads of aftermarket if you feel the need to mod down the road. Just promise you won't put a ridiculous spoiler on the back or a fart can muffler on it.

I would add a spoiler, but just like medium size, and if I add a muffler it's actually going to be something worth putting on lmao, do they have civic SI in 4 doors can't get 2 doors due to insurance being too high

mid to late 90's

The problem with new cars is that they are essentially giant computers on wheels. Easier to get something a little older and more analog to learn how to wrench.

Ohhhh I see. He doesn't really want to learn how to work on a car...he wants something to rice out, and then "maintain" himself (yeah right).

I'm done here. Kid is on his own.

Get a 1st or 2nd gen Miata. Make sure it is running first. Don't buy a car that isn't running unless you know what you are doing.

But if it at least runs, then you can slowly fix it up.

You won't get a more fun car for the buck.

Listen to them, buy the Accord or Civic not a Dart. I have a Jeep and even I wouldn't own a Dart. Also, they are shutting the car down after the next MY due to slow sales and terrible reliability.

Also, why not save up your own money and do this instead of asking your parents?

You already have a Rogue. A Dodge Dart is really more of the same since the Rogue is a lifted Sentra platform. Both are front wheel drive transverse engines.

Around me, a late model 1st gen Miata (1994-1997) sells for about $3,000 in good shape, $2500 or less in average to mediocre shape (considering the age). Then you'd get a rear wheel drive manual transmission sports car platform with a convertible top and a ton of aftermarket support and you'd still get to keep the Rogue. A Miata would be hard to live with as an only car but you don't have that problem.

Drives a red 2009 Nissan
Wants a better/newer car because....

Shit. I was walking/riding the bus at 16.

OP needs to appreciate what he has. You can learn to wrench on any car.

I was lucky to drive the Chevy Astro when I was 16. I would have given up a lot for a Rogue.

...and the insurance bill to match.

OP is lucky enough to have a relatively new, nice, efficient, and reliable car to drive around. Quit being an entitled brat and deal with it. When I was 16 I had to ask permission to use my dad's car because I didn't have my own let alone one I didn't like.

No ? Not even close, I have just standard everything but I have just done the rims, a logos in black with plastidip, as well as the carrier bars. The real reason I form like my rouge as much is because it is slow, other than that it's fine

I'm not being ungrateful I'm just fortunate to be able to get a new car if I would like. I originally wanted to get a dart due to the fact that I want a manual transmission, I am fortunate that my parents do have the money to fix up my vehicles. I will getting a job soon myself to do the work on the vehicles.

The insurance bill is a good point as well. Kid needs to wait until he's 25

there are thousands of different vehicles with a stick in it. Hell I've worked on camerys that were 5 speed. If I were you OP find a cheap car with the desired manual transmission and learn how to drive one and fix one yourself. Stick shit Hondas, Toyotas, acuras, etc are a dime a dozen and parts are readily available and cheap(er) than a 4 year old dart. You say you're concerned about insurance prices on 4 vs 2 door and you're looking at a 4 year old car. I have a 10 year old TL and was still spending $280 a month on it untill i turned 21 and then it dropped to $190. Imagine insurance on a newer dart with a teenage driver.

Op buy an interga like every other teenager and crash it in your twenties when you have a job and then buy yourself a newer car.
