298-hp for '05 G35 Sedan & Coupe 6MT

Hey guys & gals, new to the site and am in the market for a new car. I'm impressed with what's out there, including the TL. But Infiniti just announced the official horsepower figures as 298-hp for BOTH the 2005 G35 Sedan and Coupe 6MT versions at:

infinitinews.com

With the significantly upgraded/plusher interior (from the newly released pics) and available Intelligent Key and 18" wheels for the Sedan (19" for the Coupe), Infiniti really is trying to grab some market share (although their piece is still rather small compared to Acura's). I like the TL and WAS ready to purchase, but the G35 is growing on me FAST!

As a front-wheel-driver all my life, I want to see what's so good about the G35 and experience the benefits of rear-wheel-drive power transfer dynamics that the press and friends rave about (S2000, NSX, BMW). I guess I'll have to drive the '05 TL and compare it when the '05 G35 arrives from Japan.

Are there any significant changes to the TL for 2005? More HP? AWD?

BTW, where is the TL manufactured (Japan, UK, Canada, Mexico, US)? The dealer won't give me a straight answer. Any help with the aforementioned would be appreciated.

TL is made in Ohio. Sexiest Ohioan I've ever seen.

I like the 2004 G35 (not as much as the Acura) but the new curved exterior 'enhancements' to the 2005 make it look like an Altima (which I do NOT like). These 'significant' interior enhancement are minimal at best (seats are a bit different, tape player is omitted, and there are some door panel changes...hardly what I would call significant). The interior is still light years behind the Acura. I absolutely dispise the amber lighting in the car as well (BMW rip off). The only changes I wish Acura would incorporate are the tape player ommision, and the addition of more horsepower (although 270 makes the car plenty fast indeed).

In answer to your queries;

Were is the TL manufactured (Japan, UK, Canada, Mexico, US)?
US, in Marysville OH (I think)

Are there any significant changes to the TL for 2005?
Not that I am aware of, possibly addition of another color and/or ommision of the Abyss blue.

More HP?
Definitely not!

AWD?
MOST definitely not!

Good luck with your decision!

Old news, but exciting no less.

You also failed to mention the 05 G coupe 6MT will no longer have Brembo brakes.

The horse power gets me excited and the rear wheel drive does too, but it is just TOO UGLY of a car inside and out to me to ever consider it. Here are pics of the 05. The interior is still plasticy and plain. Just ugly IMHO.

Wow, that looks like an older Sentra to me or something. Definitely not as nice as I would have expected.

honestly, you gotta look real hard to even see a difference in the interior. the center console is basically the same ugliness, the seat adjusters are still on the right side for some idiotic reason. i guess the door part looks nicer? the air vents are real nasty. is it me or did they make the exterior uglier? befor i thought it was merely ok, now i think it looks worse?

If you want performance, go for the 05' G35, It will for use eat the TL but, if you want luxury go for the TL, tightest interior on that price range..

ES 330 has the best interior. TL is very close. G35 is pretty horrible for any car let alone a luxury car company. G35 does have a wonderful RWD chassis to handle ANY power increase.

With stock 298 HP it can compete with an M3. A modded G, would be able to crush the M3...

If you actually counted how many plastic pieces the interior has and the size of them. The TL wins in that area. The G35 interior is SIMPLE to use, and a T style dash. Simple is the key, and that is what drove me away from the TL actually. My interior still looks new after 16k of miles, no wear marks on the seats or any part of the interior. No rattles, nothing. It is much more solid than the TLs at this current time.

dood did you just say it will be able to compete with an M3 with 298hp? WTF? This thing will probably run 13.8-14.1's at best stock. Go look and see what M3's run.

Nope. The revised ES330's interior, with the metal accents, is obviously trying to fight back the TL's more modern looking interior, as opposed to the old-world look of the old ES330. The quality may be there, but the styling isn't - TL's interior has more visual excitement.

I dun care how many hp does that car have..It still ugly. If I wanted a coupe yes I wouldv'e gotten the G35C, but since I went for a sedan...I would choose the TL over the G35 over anyday. So TL = For Sedan and G35C for Sports Coupe for me!

No, can't YOU read. 298 hp for 6MT models both Sedan and Coupe. Autos get 280 hp.

I wonder if the 350Z is going to get 300+HP to stay above the G35.

TL6Spd is right 298hp. So that means the 05 will step on your TL anytime, 24/7... More reason for you to hate on the G

Today Nissan announced that there will be a 35th Anniversary 350Z with an increase in HP, but didn't mention how much it would gain. Click here to read it.

As if the horrible interior, hideous looks, overrated/unrefined sounding engine, weak stereo, and twitchy, nervous handling wasn't enough.

Oh I don't blame the car. I blame Nissan for trying too hard to make a budget-BMW and failing.

And my driving is just fine, fuck you very much. I suppose those clowns at Car and Driver cant drive to you either since they've dissed its handling too:

If you're not judicious about applying throttle exiting a turn, for instance, you'll induce driveline snatch and a clunk that sounds like a loose U-joint. You can also induce something else: big, dirty oversteer. More oversteer than you'll recall since testing your brother's Mustang in the rain. It's not the simplest thing to catch, either, because the G35's steering is an iota oversensitive just off center, adding its own wobble at the critical instant you're attempting to restore navigation. Each editor sampled his own Rotational Moment, then reengaged the traction control and never touched it again.

You're stupid AND can't read, always a bad combo.

First off, no BMW here, but even if I did, it wouldn't get outhandled by that nissan. And in a few tests, the TL has outhandled it too. But I guess they just "can't drive" huh?

I know you HAVE to drive a nissan. I can smell it in your stupidity.

Obviously, you're too fucking stupid to read an entire comparo with your 4th grade education Yes they found the G handled better than the TL which is funny because the TL handled better than the 5 series BMW BTW, the coupe version outhandled the 330 in every slalom test conceived so I feel bad for BMW getting owned by a Nissan

I urge you for your own good to get away from the internet sometime and read a book. Even a car magazine is fine, just something with big words.

Like I said above, IN....A.....FEW......TESTS.....the TL outhandled the G. Look it up, starting with R&T. When you're done with R&T, pick up C&D and you'll see the 530 (much heavier, I might add) ALSO outhandles the nissan.

The coupe version has also been outrun by a 330ci, so I feel bad (not really) for a nissan with MORE (ADVERTISED) POWER getting owned by a smaller (but much more sophisticated) engine.

Obviously, English is just too hard of a language for your simple mind. I guess numbers aren't your forte either. R&T actually had the 530 SLOWER than a TL. The G had over 67mph in the slalom in R&T...you should go look it up...oh sorry, I forgot your lack of IQ The 330ci got .1 second faster to 60, owned in the 1/4 and lost in the slalom. You should learn numbers....its been in practice for thousands of years.

Hmmm, G35 failing? Seems to me it did beat it, and is still winning awards left and right.

No one has dissed the G35 handling yet that I have seen.

And the 330 got owned in the slalom test by a V6 Mustang too, LOL.

Through the slalom, this humble V6 coupe ran through the cones at 63.3 mph, which is faster than a BMW 330Ci we tested. But in the real world, where ugly bumps are present, the Mustang's rear end can dance around (due chiefly to its non-independent design) when pressed in the corners, requiring small steering corrections to keep it in line.
