Red face 2015 Hot Hatches, what would YOU choose?

Seems like a lot of cool new hatches are out these days. All for under $27k..

What would you get?

Ford Focus ST

Mini Cooper S

VW GTI

Any other contenders that I am missing?

I love the ST, but I would definitely choose the new GTIs - that interior

I'd probably go 1. GTI with the Performance Pack, 2. Focus ST, 3. Other.

And still no 6MT 2.5 either. 184hp isn't quite enough in this field but it's totally out of the running with no manual transmission option on the bigger engine.

My mother just picked up a new F56 Cooper S. Really fun car, I've never been in a mini before. Super nice build quality. The BMW 2.0 turbo has loads of torque, I believe it hits max torque at 1250 rpm. Front seats have more room than my old CLS. Go test drive the new Mini. I'm impressed!

Normally I'd pick the Focus ST but.....Mini all the way.

Based on the amount of options, tuning, far superior build quality (don't confuse with reliability), handling, etc. I can't think of any other FWD cars can match it's driving characteristics.

Oh I have driven the new mini and its easily my favorite car to drive in this price range. I was giddy driving it around.

Havent driven the GTI yet, going tonight.

Im torn currently between the mini and GTI.

It's too bad the Mini isn't built as well as it feels.

VW GTI because you mentioned "all under $27k". Otherwise, I'd go with the new Golf R.

I think you will like the GTI once you drive it. Very solid for a small hatch. I drove one on the autobahn last year. Very nice car.

Do a 24 month GTI lease? Buy a year old used Mini?

Think the leases are just standard rates since its too new.

Year old mini is the old bodystyle.

No lie...I'd rock a CR-Z just because.

But really - if that doesn't satisfy for an answer, then I'd say the 5-door version of the VW GTI.

I'd take a 15 WRX or K20-swapped CR-Z over any of these.

I thought they were not making that into a hatch version?

you can probably find a 2014 subaru hatch with very low mileage to none and around that price range probably.

I would've gone R53 GP for the Mini.. tons of fun plus they screwed up the front end on the new model. At least the base Cooper has a decent engine now.
