2015 Genesis
I think it is a great looking car that provides a lot of value. However, I would ensure your local dealer is a good one and not a bunch of thieves like many of my local Hyundai dealers that prey on one demographic.
I wouldn't buy any car from a dealer like that, but sure as hell wouldn't spend $50K there.
That said, I would put it on my list of that was the kind of car I was looking for.

i shopped it, and will continue to consider it.
BUT, the lease programs are horrendous, or the dealers are just sharks. I got quoted low 700s/mo ($0 down) for a $49k optioned genesis. I told the guy that i could get a BMW 528 xdrive for $448/mo, $0 down, which has a higher msrp. he told me that he could get down to the $600s after a conversation with the manager, and then if everything "works out", then he could break into the 500s after a second round of internal negotiation.
yeah, youre doing me a huge favor by trying to sucker me into up $200/mo in fluff, and then selling me on the prospect of paying $100/mo premium to a BMW 5-series (at higher MSRP).
lets just say that i told him off to the point that they wouldnt arrest me / kick me out of the dealership, so i could get a few more minutes with the genesis on the showroom floor.
i deal with this B.S. all the time with the wheelers and dealers in the NYC diamond district. "what is your budget" means how could the seller maximize their profit margin. im here to pay market value, not get ripped off because you think i wont cross shop you. hyundai dealers are a joke.

1st mistake car shoppers do is reveal they're financial status ALL the time. This info is the car salesman "got ya" point. Everything from there is down hill for the buyer.
1. Negotiate the price for the car PERIOD! (if happy with car price go to #2)
2. If a trade is considered, this is when u negotiate that. (if happy with trade credit go to #3)
3. THEN you reveal your financial status.
Some salesman are nice in playing mind games with the buyer and tricks them to reveal info WITHOUT asking the obvious questions, so the buyer must be firm and be at the same aggressive level as the salesman.

Yup. I never said i gave him my budget. Hell no. Im just saying they are the sleazy tyape salesman that would go the route in asking your budget. He quoted me off the bat 700.
Im here to get 50k car not a fucking carpet.

find a good leasing broker that usually matches dealer monthly payments, and waives the down payment. get some quotes through the broker for plausibly comparable cars in your segment. then figure out which car in that group has the lowest monthly payment as a % of MSRP (in this case a 528 xdrive, with MSRP of $52k, for $448/mo, $0 down). This will be your baseline car that you tell dealers you are "cross shopping".
If you wish to get a 528 xdrive, by chance the best leasing car in this scenario, then get a BMW dealer to get inside of the broker's quote...if not, then just go with the broker. ...if you do not wish to get a BMW xdrive, and you wish to get, say a genesis, then go to the hyundai dealer, and say, hey, you are offering me $700/mo, $0 down for a $49k car. why should i do this, when i could get a xdrive for $448/mo, same terms at $52k car. Offer me the pro-rated monthly payment that matches the BMWs deal.
yes, it throws all of the dealer/manufacturers metrics (money factor, etc) out the window...but at least you know you are entering the negotiation with real supportable data for the best lease deal in that segment. that covers the numbers game of the negotiation. and in addition to that, your negotiation is linked to a tangible item (the BMW xdrive). you have leverage to say that you will go lease a BMW xdrive if they do not cooperate (even if you have zero interest in getting a BMW).
in summary, you have created your own "market" by selecting data points that show the best leasing cars, which are plausibly comparable. this is your ammo for negotiation.

This is all great but it's not really about the Genesis anymore
Though I will say TM that your experience with that dealer is why I'm hesitant about buying a $35-50K Hyundai.
I know from second-hand experience that the one around here will lie on credit apps to get their customers into cars.

to cut to the chase, on a whole (and i stress "on a whole" as it doesnt apply to everyone), but, they are accustomed selling lower income, less educated ppl, $20k cars, so they now think they could treat all customers like they dont know any better.
i cant imagine what it would be like dealing with them to get into an equus.

i just saw my first Genesis on the road the other day in traffic. I could only see the rear because of the traffic.
It looks more like A6 than anything else from the back but in a good way.
GO for it!

I'm a big fan of this car, at least from research and seeing them in the street. If I was in the market for something like this, it would be on my very short list.
Does it have audi-looking features? Yes. But I could afford this much before I could afford a comparable audi.

It is a very nice car but.... as mentioned shop your dealer. Make sure the dealer treats genesis buyers as luxury buyers with a separate sales area and gives loaners for service. I have an older Hyundai that I brought in for service. The guy told me that Equus owners get special service and loaners but not Genesis owners.
Many Hyundai dealers are part of auto malls that also sell other mainstream brands so they are used to treating all customers like main stream customers and not luxury customers.
It is rare to see a BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Infiniti, or Acura dealer as part of a 1 stop auto mall. The few times I have seen it is when they are combined with other luxury brands like Landrover / Jaguar with Porsche / Audi and an Infiniti next door.

Got 14 R-Spec in the shop right now. Very nice! The leather used is SOOO comfortable.
