2012 A6 vs 2011 535i
2012 A6 vs 2011 535i

1st Place: 2012 Audi A6
The new A6 takes over as the sport sedan of the midsize luxury car class. It's as luxurious and tech-laden as any rival, yet rewarding to drive on a back road or anywhere else.
2nd Place: 2011 BMW 535i
BMW cedes its crown. The athleticism might still be there, but it's buried under layers of isolation measures that make the 535i feel like a downsized 7 Series.
The 5-series look pretty damn aggressive with the sport packages too. Don't know if it's sport pkg or M pkg, but yeah it goes from meh to wow with an upgraded bumper, that's for sure.
And OP I would get the A6. My mom has a 2011 535i and I love it no doubt. I just saw the new A6's and that is just a tad better, just by a small amount. I really have no complaints about the 535i, great car.

From this class, I like the XF 5.0 for around $60k! There is CTS-V as well, but I doubt it will be cross-shopped with these cars.

Cool story bro.. my friend had an 08 550i Sport that handled like it was on rails. He traded it in for the new model, and loves it. He did say it felt "less solid" though. BMW must know what buyers in this segment want (which is a 7-series?). Nevertheless, I felt that previous generation 5's had more character.

I prefer the 5-series. Audi's styling is starting to look regurgitated. Take an A4, do a little stretch here, a pull there, slightly resculpt one area, resize the car and use slightly altered tail lights and you have the A6.
Then there's the aforementioned manual transmission option. I think I'd prefer an Infiniti M over the A6.

I agree the C63 is an impressive car. However, the C is actually quite a bit smaller than the cars in the comparison above (more akin to a BMW 3 or an Audi A4/S4/RS4). A closer match from MB would be an E-Class.
I see. My GF has a 2011 alpine white 528, the interior is somewhat bland and the I-drive is tolerable but nothing to write home about. The car is long and spacious though, IIRC the new 5-series is about the same as the old 7-series length. I had to move some sh-t around my garage just to allow it to fit whereas I have garage space in spades with my 911 and Element.
