Riiiiiight. And my neighbor who just picked up a Porsche Turbo and rants and raves about it is wrong too b/c some magazines like the Nissan GTR better.

Plus, who is even talking about the 1.8T engine? I've driven several in just about every config (FWD stick and auto, AWD stick and auto) and that engine was a dog in stock form. But that's not what we're talking about, so it's irrelevant. Why not mention the 1.6L engine in the Audi 80 while you're at it?

Whatever, enjoy your highly reviewed Miley Cyrus songs and using opinions in magazines to tell people their opinions and experiences are wrong....

And if you have driven as many 1.8T and 2.0T as you claim, you should have a lot more information to provide in rebuttal instead of giving a magazine article as proof. Topics like engine reliability, suspension performance, how modifications improve/lessen reliability, or how aged Audi's do with needing repairs, so many topics to address when comparing vehicles. But I guess a magazine article hasn't been written about all that yet for you to support your stance. :troutslap

You'll enjoy the car that much more. Also, we didn't have to pay any additional cost to special order our Avant.

If you want to see the path I took on research, ordering, etc., look at this thread....

I looked at your thread a long time ago. Now I'm like reading everything in there right now... AZ kills my work productivity. Just today though

Hmm.. 4 months sounds really...........long. sigh. But I do fully understand that it is better to wait and special order the car. When I bought my previous car 3G TL, the dealership that I went to didn't have any MT TLs in stock. I just bought an automatic one and regretted it every single day for the next 4 years. So yeah.. I'll talk to my gf tonight to see what she wants to do.

With 258lbft of torque at such low rpm, it should feel as powerful as those 3.2-3.5L engines.

For everyday driving, it may even feel faster, given the the torque curve. If you push it to high RPMs, however, it will start to run out of power compared to the V6s.

I will most likely be picking up a 2010 Ice silver/black int A4, premium plus w/navigation MT on Monday or Tuesday. Paid invoice for it so it seems like a good deal to me. Financing sucks but it will be paid off in less than 2 yrs if I plan on keeping it.
$40,710.00 out the door.

Will be thinking of the reflash after a year or so. Can't wait.

I'd definitely get the A4. However, I'd opt for the manual. When I test drove the auto it felt quite sluggish.

Oh, and you definitely want to do at least an ECU reflash as many others have suggested. It's a completely different beast with all the extra power and torque. The turbo is a bit small though, so it'll run out of steam by 6k RPM or so.

Agree on the looks of a 4G TL but I was curious how th A4 compared to my 6MT 3G TL in speed

1/4 mile
15.0 @ 92 2009 A4 6AT
14.4 @ 99 2004 TL 6MT

Great interior on the Audi but I prefer the exterior, motor and less mass on a 3G TL (hey I'm biased ).

In that comparison test, I wonder how many BMW dealerships actually have a 328i with a $36K sticker also?

Yup, the trap speed shows you how much horsepower the 2.0T engine is making. At 92-94mph, that's roughly the same as the TSX (Car and Driver got 93mph).

For most people though, they probably don't care too much since people rarely push it to high rpms. But for Honda enthusiasts, that's where the fun is.

My gf is planning to pick up 2010 A4 Avant S-Line in 2 weeks! Can't wait to see it and drive it.[/quote]

WAIT!.....the TL is quite expensive yet your GF is buying a 2010 A4 S-Line? Ahhhh that's more than a TL.
I've drive the 2.0 4 banger and it's got a lot of zip but it's noisy and there is turbo lag and it's just not smooth like a V6 or V8. To me it's just to diffcult to justify the purchase of a $45k car that has a 4 banger. They got rid of the 6 because it was a $3k + option.

No, they got rid of the 6 because more people were buying the 2.0T trim and the motor didn't provide enough of a boost in power to justify the $5K difference in price for the vehicles it was placed in. Also, Audi is shifting their image to provide cars with power that also get good mileage. They have a very solid motor with the 2.0T, and it's not putting out more power than their 3.2 and the tuning capabilities for it are absurd! With a simple tune, that motor can output 323 lb-ft of torque. Imagine what will happen when they begin to employ their weight saving strategies in the next 5 years. This is why we can't see a huge mileage increase with the smaller motor, but once those weight savings strategies come into play, it's going to paint a new picture for Audi.

The only mod I will be doing is getting the shift knob from the package. that will suffice with me. I am not into the fancy rims and lowered suspension thing. Never was. i also prefer the 4 spoke steering wheel. It fits my driving habits better.

With that said, I would have preferred to get the sports package but I will not be missing it later down the road.

The same day you buy the A4, you go online to tirerack.com and get some steel wheels with good winter rubber. Simple, cheap, and not hard to deal with. And I'm sure the dealer wouldn't mind doing the changeover for you. Don't let "dealing with tires" be a reason to get a better car/option.

Do not fall for the over-priced understeering german dogs. It is a great looker but i am dissapointed at the cost vs performance advantage. Underpowered motor and over priced options list. TL WINS HANDS DOWN. Also all sorts of problems with awd system in my past audi do yourself a favor and stay away!

What problems did you have with the AWD system? I haven't heard of any brand-wide, or model-wide problems with Quattro.

You can't expect someone to simply take your word for it without offering support for your "don't buy audi" argument.

Well, as far as comparing the A4 2.0T quattro to the TL 5AT, they are about as quick as each other, so I wouldn't say the TL wins hands down.....it really depends on what you want. Some prefer buying a bigger car that's loaded with everything (the TL), some prefer buying a slightly smaller carthat can be customized to their own liking (the A4). I also believe Audi has been improving in terms of reliability.

Because obviously you've driven the B8 A4 and managed to push it enough to cause it to understeer.

And you do understand the appeal in having a bunch of separate options, right? You can leave out what you don't want and get what you do. Every european brand lists out a bunch of options so people can customize their car to their liking.

That car gave me hell!!! @34k miles - broken drive belt, @ 42k miles - blown left rear shocks, @ 44k miles lost power steering, @ 48k miles - problem with the AC. @ 56k miles the replaced left rear shock blown(wtf..), @ 66k miles- oil leak, and finally @ 72k miles check engine light went on saying some Air fuel sensor went bad and that's when i said i've had enuff of this so call "German engineering" and traded in for an 06 tl. I guess i got a defective car. And what's up with the expensive Audi parts? a freaking bolt costs 3 bucks???

Please provide some insight to support this. I'm really curious to hear because of the thousands of cars on the Audi Forums, very few have problems like that. And these are people that DO push their cars harder than others do because of modifications, taking them to the track, etc. So it's safe to assume that these individuals would be the first to experience problems with the motor, etc. Suspension maybe not as much if they swapped parts out, but still. It's not as widespread as you claim them to be.

I guess based on your argument 6spd tranny failures for Honda was a drop in the bucket compared to Audi.

True, but I have no problem admitting that the Audi's of the first half of 2000 had problems. The thing is that bugs me is that Audi has improved reliability, we know that, we've researched it, some of us own the cars after we did that research, and we're able to look at it objectively. Then you have another group of people that don't do any research, base their information on an isolated incident, or someone crying they saw a wolf, and then expect people to take their "word" for it. Yet, companies like Honda and Toyota that have had equally if not worse situations in terms of reliability. with vehicles spanning many years (transmissions anyone) somehow escape their memory. Sure Honda and Toyota are high on the reliability list, but they are still far from perfect. There is a reason why their cars are so much cheaper than Audi, Bimmer and Benz. Audi has been moving up market, their pricing reflects that, and their products are starting to reflect that too. Comparing Audi to Acura is in the first place no matter how much power the TL is compared to the A4, or how much you perceive the tech gadgets in one car to be superior to the other, they are in different segments, One is in luxury market, the other is trying to be in the luxury market. Not to say that the Acura isn't a nice car, but when you put two side by side, the build quality and materials in my Audi are far superior to the quality of materials in the Acura.

Comparing a vehicle based on size is one thing, performance another, but you can't then turn those and base it on price. That's like saying a 40K corvette is an equal competitor in luxury to that of a Porsche.
