2008 M3 Sedan vs. new CTS-V vs. RS-4
Got a buddy with way too much money who is looking for a new car in the near future. He's got his sights on the M, but has some time to think about it.
If price didn't matter, which car would you drive and why?
Please keep your comments to just these three cars because he refuses to consider any others.

I would rule out the M3 because I don't like the sedan, it's coupe or no BMW. Is the new CTS-V the 500hp one? If so, that would get my vote if you don't live somewhere that has snow. Audi RS-4 would be the most practical in my opinion
I didn't include a poll because I am interested in arguments in support of opinion. I'm hoping for the CTS, I'm just looking for some more arguments for it besides the obvious 'it has more power'. I figure if I can make a good argument I might sway his opinion, but if I just say 'well 70% of the guys on Azine said so' he wouldn't care one bit.
well the M3 sedan just doesn't do it for me in the looks department.
the cts-v looks the best to me, the rs-4 next.
now, having not driven any of them, it is hard to make a true judgement.
based on looks and 550hp, i choose the cts-v

Why isn't the C63 AMG included? That'd be my pick.
Of those 3 however, I'd have to go with the CTS-V. Its interior is light years ahead of the M3s, it has a shit load of power, and its roomy enough if you transport people a lot. I'm sure the M3 is more agile, but I'm almost positive the CTS-V won't be too far behind.

Tough Choice
This is tough.... No M3 sedan..... If a 4 door with speed is the object, the M5 is a better choice, but not in the argument.
I really like Audi, and the thought of being in a wagon that can blow the doors off of most cars is exciting. But.....

Gotta give the Caddy its due..........550 is a number that makes me

M3 Sedan is kind of goofy looking IMO...
CTS-V is a fuckin M O N S T E R . 550hp/550tq though I don't know when its coming out
Audi RS4 is a great mix of everything, and i'd probably end up getting that. It sounds so bad ass...I remember hearing one at the mall....wow.

Beyond that, though, I'd only choose the car that I liked the best after driving it-- and that applies regardless of whether I was choosing an econocar or a mid-engined supercar.
The BMW M3 is not out yet and the CTS-V doesn't exist, so the RS-4 would be my choice of the three simply because it exists and can be driven on a highway in the US today.

This good.
I think this is easy really. CTS-V FTW! It has much more power, a much nicer interior (and exterior IMO), it should be quite nimble, It will have a ton more features (and probably at a lower price than the other two) like a built in harddrive, sat/nav with weather and traffic, etc. I believe it is also the bggest in terms of passenger room (and probably the most comfy to boot). Did I mention that it will have a Corvette engine?!?!
Thanks a lot guys

C63 is out of the question because it is way too ugly and because all that power doesn't really help much on the track when you can't control the car.
M5 isn't an option because another friend already has one.
Only question is will the CTS-V really be able to keep up with the M3 through the twistys? I know there's no way to know until the car comes out, but having driven the last CTS-V I'm really having a hard time imagining the new one being quick through the corners. Anybody driven the new CTS?
While its hard to say now since the car isnt out yet, id say CTS-V. The new CTS is light years ahead of the old in handling and feel, and id bet the new V is even better. Not to mention it looks a HELL of alot better, has a interior that the BMW could only dream of. Not to mention a far more usable backseat.

RS4, drop another $5000 (Powertrain) into modifying it and you'll have a car that does 0-60 in ~4 seconds.

Plus, the Audi looks much better than everything else :-\.

Modding is a whole different topic. Whatever car he gets he will be putting a LOT of money into it aftermarket. Does that change anyone's opinion? Personally I'd rather mod an rs4 because the AWD will make a ton of HP much more usable. However I remember reading that the m3 sedan was built to use WAY more power than it comes stock with.

The C is cheeeeep-looking inside and was for its last generation. I remember sitting in a last-gen C and it had a handle for seat adjustment rather than electronics!
OTOH, BMW interiors, while stark, look higher-quality to me. The M3 just tells people...."just drive me. You don't give a s*it about that phone call, anyway. Fling me around a corner already, willya?" Nothing wrong with that....there IS a reason it's called the "ultimate driving machine".The Caddy will beat both on interior amenities, I'm sure... I am hoping the handling will be good. Hauling over 4k pounds, though, it'll take a lot to keep that car from prodigious body roll in the corners.

I'm one of those who would generally not buy a car in its first model year and certainly not without driving an example, so neither the M3 nor the CTS-V would be on my list now even if I could afford them.
