GM is really stepping up their game.
Sorry I disagree and here's why ... I don't want a freakin' sedan! At least not right now I don't and if I change my mind Caddy's got me covered.

GM might be stepping up their game but they have nothing in the 30-40k range coming in the foreseeable future that interests me at all. The CTS coupe looks like a gigantic hatchback.

If GM comes up with something that will sway me from a BMW, Audi, or Infiniti THEN I'll come around.

In the meantime, I'm not keen on Camaros or GTOs.

It's like this I believe the brand that has the most hope of all GM brands is Caddy.
sorry Chevy and or GM make fans. the CTS they did really i feel "up it" from the 1st generation. would i buy one? I don't know. I'd ask around different owners whos had them for 2-3 years see what they think of the car and their trips to the shop if GM supported them in warrenty claims.

I did test-drive the 4-cylinder version, but I thought it needed more power for a car of that size & weight. Plus, they didn't have a 4-cylinder XLE on the lot so they gave me a bare-bones one to drive, which was a big mistake on their part. See JMT's pic above...
My 08 SE V6 has been fine so far. I did not experience any flare issue (may be i was not paying attention).

BTW, I also had issues with the TL auto (00).

The point is, the Camry has an inline 4, not a V4...

This is funny, but last time I checked this thread wasnt about you. It was about ernie. So, who cares if you don't want a sedan? Not I.

Give the Accord time - It will grow on you. Accord short-term quality is killing Camry right now (and they just had a new model launch), but it's only a matter of time before Toyota rebounds.

The new 08 accord has a very high level of build quality, but I think it's too big for me, personally.

Sometimes pictures just don't cut it .... def. check them out in person to better compare the Accord & Camry ...

IMHO either Accord or Camry won't have any issues on the reliabilty front ...

If you still want to check out an Altima, my brother works at a Nissan dealer. Will probably be a bit of a hike for you (it's in Limerick right off 422) but I can make sure that my brother will give you all the time you need, will let you drive whatever you want and won't pressure you at all for a sale.

That's what you get for buying a Chrysler.

The new Malibu LTZ impressed me more than the new Camry. The car is quiet as hell, and despite the clashing colors of the charcoal/burnt orange interior it still looked great IMO. HUGE step over that old POS Malibu. The Camry has a really ugly center stack, with its fluorescent blue/green panels. The Camry's inline-4 is the real turd though, the transmission is jerky as mentioned and the car always hunts for gears. Went on a 2 hour trip with the 4-cyl Camry as a rental and it got old real quick.

I would simply go with a G8 because the LSx engines are pretty much bulletproof. Not to mention pretty much the same car, the Holden Commodore has a good reputation over in Australia. Why not check out the G8, are you afraid you'll like it too much or something?

I had to drive a ~98 Dodge Stratus for a whole day once. It was the biggest piece of shit I've ever sat in/drove. Its not even a sports car and the dash is longer than my Camaro's. The only thing I have positive to say about that car is the seats were plush. I love driving cars without power steering... I've only disliked 2, one I hated was the Stratus and the other was an old F-Series work truck. So screw Chrysler unless its a Viper.... but there's really no use comparing a 10 or 15 year old car to a brand new one, especially if its from a different marque. See: MB models from a few years ago

I can't possibly see how someone would enjoy driving a Camry unless they were a senior citizen. My dad's 04 Camry LE V6 is one of the most boring cars I've ever driven, 2nd maybe to a 1980's F-series truck with a column shifter I drove once. But all the more power (or not, if you opt for you 4-cyl) to you.

The biggest problem with the Malibu is the tight rear seat. I'm only 5'11" and I found the rear seat to be on the tight side for a mid-sized car.

Who cares. Clearly the guy is an idiot. He's a Mod and he doesn't know that's it's an I4 and not a V4?

TYpical insecure cross car forum banter...people here do it when someone cross posts against hondas/acuras...they do someone cross posts things we say.

They are hypocritical in the blabberings about how most here are acting like children, etc. As they sit there and bash acuras and hondas to feel justified that some people dont love the camry.

They are ignorant to fact that most people here dont even own an acura anymore But they dont know us so how could they even know.

They are also severely ignorant to the fact that the vast majority of us are very much car enthusiasts. And while there are those of us who don't care for the camry, or feel this current gen is let down in the interior, etc etc etc...We do like Toyota, and we like several other models they offer.

But hey, what can you do. I guess it helps them feel better about themselves.

I will restate my opinion, the only Camry I would get is the SE in Matador Red or whatever it's called (I think Matador is the Lexus name for it...). If you're going to compare a fully loaded SE to the TL-S, you can get the prices pretty similar, as long as you count the fact that no one pays retail on the TL-S anymore. I guess the only problem I would have with the Camry is the fact that the old model had a lot of old people driving them.

are you sure about that?

the TL-S may not be selling for sticker, but who pays mid 30s for a camry even if it's a V6 SE?

my friend's dad just bought one fully loaded for less than 30.

and a lot of old people are driving the current ones too.

Maybe I'm delusional then I recall building one a few weeks back with pretty much every option it came out to $35k if I remember correctly.

So I went back and redid as I had before, was $35,200 with only about half of the accessories, mind you they were the expensive ones.

And have those people driving anything other than Toyotas? I can't take the Camry in any trim seriously as an enthusiast's car, they only offer a 5-speed manual in the base 4-cyl model. And as much as I say the new Acuras don't excite me at all, the last thing I'll be caught daily driving is a new Toyota. What do they offer that no other car company offers besides great build quality and relatively good reliability?

That's funny how the bring up the Honda ricer deal, the ratio of ricers to non-ricers in the Scion crowd is astounding. The lengths that some people will go to mod a 100 hp engine....

I had a new Camry recently as a rental car. Overall, I thought it was pretty mediocre all around and the interior design and quality were extremely disappointing. I'd much rather buy many of its the competition like the Accord, Altima or Malibu
