2008 Audi A5 / S5

Anyone else in here kind of excited for the new S5?

The new M3 is in the 70's while this admittedly very handsome coupe is around 55K with toys.

I know it's not a 419hp and I know the M3 might be a faster car but holy cow for a quattro setup for winter and sexy lines this car is going to be a head turner.

Been itching to go try it since I found out it was available for testing in the DC area. Haven't had time yet, but maybe when I head home for Thanksgiving, I will stop at the local Audi dealer and take one for a spin.

Love both of them. Drove in an S5 and it was hot. My wife is on the list at the Audi dealer for the first Silver A5... but I don't think we're going to go through with it. Not b/c it isn't a hot car, but b/c, A) it's my turn for a car and B) we'll probably go Lexus or Infiniti next so we don't have to worry about reliability over the long-term....

Saw one on the road in the day time, and even in the rear view mirror the LED lights shined bright. DId I mention this was in the daytime?

Nice looking car.

Out of your price range? With how much money you have dropped in mods for your 335, you could have had this car.

Also, which dealer has on of these? Wait, don't tell me.

I'm also curious to see what Beltfed thinks the resale on one of these will be in a year from now. Or anyone else for that matter.

I agree only in the looks dept. Performance wise, you cannot deny what the 3 series is capable of.

I highly doubt the difference between the R5 and the 335 are that noticeable (IMO) Sure the numbers on paper are a little different, but when looking at the car as a whole,I wouldn't really count the R5 out on performance side...esp with its Quattro AWD! Plus you get a MUCH better looking car, inside and out. Can't wait for the RS5 to come out to compete against the M3.

True but I didnt want awd again.

Every Audi dealeraround Chicago has at least one demo. Schaumburg Audi has a red one fore sale i think and a gray one for test drives.

I do want to take it for a spin though as im curious.

OK i checked, my car with mods is still no where near $59k!!

Plus i just sold my DPEs

But i agree, the S5 is much nicer inside and out than the 335.

^^ How much did you sell them for? Any reason? Thinking about getting a set of 20" DPE's within the next year...

Sold them for $3500

No real reason, kinda was tired of having expensive wheels to worry about when driving around. Plus i get bored easily with wheels.

That makes sense, and if I remember correctly, you loved your last bimmer.

That price tag scares me, but I will probably look at one when I see what resale prices look like, and how the reliability is.

I caught the first dozen or so posts on the thread below. It's at 19 pages now. Did something interesting happen?

I think we are misunderstanding each other. I don't think the S5 is a slouch, I just think the 3 is very comparable in terms of performance.

I think Crazy Sellout posted a video of these two machines ripping around a track, and it was very close in terms of performance. I don't have a link to it, as I'm not sure which site it was posted on, but maybe he can link it here.

EDIT: Here is the link to the vid.

Yeah, I saw that video. So IMO, the only downfall of the R5 is the price...which would be the only reason I could see for someone choosing the 335 over it. But again, everyone has their own opinions right?

hmm... mine only came to $ 56,190.00

All I wanted was the Phantom Black Pearl, Black Nappa Leather, B&O sound, navi, and tech package. I'd skip the inlays.

hmm...

In 6 months or so you'll be able to get them discounted.....$2-$3k off.

The car market stinks right now.

And while the S5 is very nice, its not like people are lining up out the door to get them.

Difficult situation for car manufacturers. On top of a terrible market we have a weak dollar.
