2006 VW Passat

Alright, I've been looking around for a new car for my girlfriend and came across the VW Passat, What do you guys think, it seems to have a TON of features and options for what the invoice is. I went to the lot today and they were all about 4-6k over the invoice due to the different packages. For the value package the invoice is $22,157. I should be able to find a dealer that will give me it at or very close to invoice right...any ideas would be great or any other thoughts about the 06 passat or something else....thanks guys

The new design I REALLY like, the older ones were always meh to me.

The 06 takes alot of design cues, (especially the inside) from Audi. Very upscale interior.

THe only thing I'd be worried about is VW/Audi reliability. What price range is she in?

I happen to like the new Passat. I've seen a few of them on the street and I like the design. I guess I should say however, that the car falls into the category with cars such as the Toyota Avalon and the Dodge Magnum: looks good, but I'd never buy it.

sorry bro but VW/Audi reliablity is awful I know Acura made crappy tranny's, but tell your price range and type of car(I.e. 2 door, 4 door, AWD, FWD, RWD, sporty, classy) and we will give you good suggestions.

I think it looks awesome. Looks are much nicer than the Accord or Camry, and the Interior looks great too.

i did the 24 hr test drive on the new passat. looks beautiful outside. inside is nice too. the power from the 2.0t matches a v6 and no lag. the key, actually the fob (since there is no key) is cool. if vw reliability has improved and they offered DSG on it i would be all over it

I doubt they are going for near invoice at this time.

Does that car offer ventilated seats?

VW dealers are gonna try for MSRP on the new 06 models... unless you wait a couple of months...

Friend of a friend went to buy a new jetta, and they wouldn't budge from MSRP. Invoice and MSRP is only like 1300-1500 bucks difference on a Jetta tho'.

well, the price range is in the mid to low 20's....you know about 20-25k or so....she wants a 4 door or maybe even a small SUV....i started a thread about a week ago about some SUV's she's interested in like the Liberty and Xterra....although I think she wants to get something in the luxury market. What about the accord? would that be around that range or no? Would trying to get the passat about 500-1k over invoice a possibility also?

i worked for a honda/vw/mb dealership and vw are pos. they came in so much and iv had more than a handful of people telling me how much they hate the car and will never buy a vw again. from tranny problems to electrical. somoe lady bought a brand new vw and she came in 3 times in the first 2 weeks for problems. haha the car only had liek 100 miles on it. id def stay away. even the service guys told me that they were garbage sicne most the cars coming in were vw.

My wife drives a 2003 Passat GLX, and it's been a great car so far. It has 53,000 miles on it, and still looks and drives like it is brand new. The only thing that we have had to get done to the car was to replace a split CV Boot at 52,000 miles. Other than that, it has been top notch.

I bought the vehicle in August of 2002, and the new models had only been out a couple of weeks. That being said, I was able to negotiate, with the internet manager, a price that was $50 over invoice. Not only that, I also negotiated the price of a spoiler and splash guards, and got them all at the dealer cost. I have purchased over 10 new vehicles, and it was by far the easiest buying experience that I have ever had.

The only thing that I would change about my wife's car is the power coming from the V6. The 2006 model has addressed that problem, and the V6 now produces 280 hp. I just read a review in my new motor trend about the 2006 Passat, and I believe that it will once again set the bar in the mid size semi luxury segment.

Be warned, the service can suck if you pick the wrong dealership to go to. If you find a good one like we have, you will have no complaints

On top of normal Audi/VW related reliability issues, I'd be a bit iffy to buy any first model year of the car... especially considering the amount of changes and upgrades the new passat has undergone.

Stay away from Volkswagen, the cars are nice for a while but after a couple of months you run into all kinds of problems, I say no more..................

I don’t know about you but I’m not willing to spend money on a car that has a worse dependability and quality ranking than Daewoo and Isuzu. I don’t care how nice it looks.
