2006 TL or a 2005 BMW 530i ?

Which would you prefer ? Prices should soften on used 530i's with the new generation coming out shortly.

I love my TL but the steering and road feel could be better.

depends what you looking for. these two were my choices last year before i picked up my WDP. the reason i choose the Acura was because i didn't like the navi control in the 5 series and because i was familiar with hondas since this was my 7th one. then i sold the WDP and got another AM TL. if i ever get rid of the AM, i dont think i would buy another TL. might have to change up it a bit but not because TL's are bad.

Fit and finish on the Bimmer is superior is suspect the seats are more comfy as well. TL seats are short of torture racks on long drives. It is pretty underpowered though at 225hp however it is rwd. Interior may not look as cool. But it handles excellent and is more comfortable over bumps. Over all I think that the Bimmer would win if I had to chose again. TL is a fun car to drive it's just not as refined.

I'd personally never buy a used BMW. Just a money pit. The only way I'd go German is to lease a new one, then ditch it before it becomes said money pit.

I'd go with the TL. More powerful engine, more features (or not, depending on how the 530 is equipped), looks better, more reliable... If it was a 535 then that would be different, I'd definitely choose the BMW then.

Not if you get it CPO'd.

I would probably go with the TL. More power, and lower cost of maintenance.

Also... you may want to read this. The OP is talking about the AWD 530... but still may give you some insight... https://acurazine.com/forums/car-talk-5/buy-tl-not-758339/

TL-S > 530i If u want a firmer steering feel get the type-s; u feel the road better than the base TL

The TL styling looks so much better than the beemer. unless its a 550i and up GL!

It's a bimmer. Beemer is the bike.

The 2005 BMW 530i is a "driver's car" and has a excellent calibrated chassis. This is the feature that has always caught my attention. The turn-offs for me are the tedious iDrive system, so-so reliability and extended service intervals such as lifetime automatic transmission fluid for a 2005 model car. I agree with changing the automatic transmission fluid more frequently is very good insurance against future problems. 30,000 mile change would be desirable for me for a NYC car, not lifetime.

The 535i is even nicer (beyond my budget)....but will be prone to more problems down the road. I do not care for frequent visits to the shop for repairs...way too expensive. Also not interested in replacing the turbo down the road.

There very, very few 2005 CPO's on the market....most are 2006's and 2007's.
The odds are stacked against me at this time......bummer

TL looks so much better IMO. Idk what the hype over BMW and Mercedes is, my family is filled with them and personally I liked my TL better then my sisters Mercedes+ it was faster, minus the 5 year age difference.

+1...if you had deep pockets to fix a Bimmer then go new instead.

It depends on what your preference is. If you are looking for better handling then bimmer is the way to go. I own a Tl and personally, I hate the way it handles. The steering wheel has a weird feel to it. Otherwise, the Tl is an amazing car.

If you plan on keeping the car for a few years or plan on putting miles on it then i would go TL. Its more reliable and cheaper to fix.

My fiance says she hates the way it steers itself. I don't notice unless I hit a bump then it pulls on the bump.

The TL will be more reliable for sure in the long run.

Assuming both are in excellent condition, I would go with the BMW anyday. They seem to around the same price, according to Edmunds. TL's have torque steer if you drive them hard, and it sound like you might be in that category. BMW is also more prestigious, especially the 5 series.

Would Lindsay Lohan drive a bimmer?

You shouldnt buy the TL because it has a stupid name and Acura has been losing sales ever since calling it a TL...

Lindsay Lohan's driver is being investigated for criminal assault with a deadly weapon — Lohan’s BMW 650 — after allegedly running into a paparazzo early Sunday morning in Hollywood, TMZ.com reports. Lohan was reportedly in the car when it happened.
What’s bigger news — that Lindsay Lohan’s driver allegedly hit a paparazzo, or that there are still paparazzi chasing Lindsay Lohan?
The photographer’s hand was injured and he was treated at the scene. He's already getting litigious -- "Of course I'm going to sue them ... but I don't care about the money."

I notice my posts are deleted, but his always stay??

Normally I'd say the TL because it's more reliable but honestly the BMW will have the handling you're looking for. I test drove several 3G TLs and the torque steer was pretty awful, lets be honest. If your not hurting for cash then take the chance on some occasional repair expenses for the sake of driving a car with unmatched handling.
