2005 Legacy GT at track...

As I stated after the two tests of the LGT in Car & Driver, then in Road & Track, they both used the same "test mule" Legacy GT with over 5000 (I'm sure well abused) miles on it and both got low 14's, I thought the LGT was capable of better times. I mentioned I think we'll see better in future tests.

Then I saw this:

http://www.legacygt.com/viewtopic.php?t=2833&highlight=

This guy got a 13.9 @ 100+ mph on a stock Legacy GT!
And he did so in 88 degree weather, at 2000 feet elevation with only 1,100 miles on his car!
And he was inexperienced driving AWD cars!!! As seen by his rather mediocre 60 foot times and admitted lack of AWD experience!

Sweet Lordy....that means the LGT is capable of 13.7 @ 101 mph with a bit better weather,
lower elevation and more break in miles!

Sorry, had to share!

I do! I think it's great that a stock $26K very nice AWD sport sedan can cross the stripe in the same time as a 350Z or Mustang GT.

Funny, you guys don't respond to posts in the "Racing and Competition" section like that, even when it's about other cars.

So...a $20k SRT-4 will smoke your Legacy GT and it's FWD.

But :whocares:

But the SRT-4 is a POS.
Was a POS 12 or so years ago when it debutted, and it's still one now with basically zero changes to it.
Sure it may go fast and handle good, but if that's all people we're looking for in cars
everybody would be driving SRT-4's.

And that's why we drive TSX's.

An SRT-4 has only been around since the 2003 model year, so two years about.

The Neon on the other hand has been around forever.

And a $26K stock Subaru is with zero options.

The current Accord could use a good de-butting

Hmmm... I was at a dealership just yesterday taking a look at the new Legacy 2.5GT. 250hp and AWD makes for a pretty nice combination. The interior is much improved over the previous model, and quality and fit and finish of materials is quite good, but I felt not quite at Honda/Acura level. Sizewise, it feels bigger than a TSX and smaller than a TL. Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to test drive one, but I hear it does very well in corners, and of course the AWD could be an advantage in winter.

Pricing in Canada starts at CAD$36,495, so comparable to a TSX - for that price, you get more power and AWD in a pretty nice package. Adding leather and the other luxury touches puts the price up to the CAD$40,295 though, at which point it's pushing up on a TL.

Since I didn't get a chance to test drive, on paper I think the 2.5GT is a legitimate contender to something slotted between a TSX and TL. Would definitely like to give it a spin sometime.

My .

72, you keep bringing up a Subie which most folks on this site have said it's an OK car but opted for something else. Belaboring your point here won't change matters - I mean look at your rep.....

Those mean nothing.
When I joined I posted my review of the four cars C & D tested and I put the TSX on top when scoring the same way they did.
I had a "green" or I guess, "good rep" then.

But apparently as soon as someone points out other cars or disagrees with a moderator on a point or two, they get rated lower. That's quite funny.

Say good things about the TSX = doggie bones and high scores
Say good things about another car or point out areas about other cars
that are better than the TSX = boooo, hissss, give bad scores too. LOL Biased at it's best.

Funny how other forums can appreciate other cars and are interested in the performance of other cars, not just the ones they own.
I point out that someone got into the 13's with a stock LGT and suddenly nobody cares.
If someone on this board posted they got a 14.9 in a stock TSX you guys would all have hard-ons and be congratulatory to him.

On other boards, people talk about other cars as well and don't flame or "give bad rep scores" to someone who posts about other cars.
You guys and apparently the moderators are too sensitive to criticism and can't appreciate what other cars have to offer.

Guess it all goes back to my view that people interested in performance cars wouldn't put the TSX on the top of their list of cars to buy! Oh no, is that going to get me another "bad rep" score with the moderators? Silly.

The TSX is a d@mn fine car, to bad many of you aren't d@mn fine auto enthusiasts and so narrow minded that you can't appreciate other cars and other people's opinions.

Too bad, I was excited about the prospect of possibly getting a TSX for my fiance, and discussing it and other cars with you guys.
But it's painfully clear, that you only want to hear good things about the TSX, and nothing bad about the TSX or zip about other cars. So I guess I'll stick to other car boards where enthusiasts of all cars like to chat.

I'll look for you in my rear view mirror.

Later.

Driver72, none of the mods gave you negative rep.

You're free to post whatever you like but because 90% of your posts are about how good the LGT is, forgive me if I don't sound too excited by your thread. If I want to read about how great the LGT is I'll just read a subaru forum thanks.

Uh, 72, I don't know if that was meant to be a huffy, "Fine. I'll just GO then" final post. I think you're off the mark by a lot.

Most people here are enthusiasts first, TSX owners second. Or in the case of Junkster, a Subie owner second—and he's one of the best contributors here. There are several other posters who don't own a TSX. Plenty of other cars and viewpoints get play here. Obviously not as much as the TSX but, hey, that's the name on the door when you come in.

I don't know who gave you negative rep but my guess is it had to do with the quality of the posts not what make of car you discussed. You come across awfully pouty just because we didn't think your Legacy post wasn't earth-shattering.

Do a search on the Legacy and you'll see it's been discussed a bunch.

This is a site for car novices all the way up to guys with scarred knuckles from rebuilding engines. I'm sure you'll find a comfy nook in here somewhere. If not, well, piss off.

Just kidding.

You know, Driver72, your post would have been better recieved if your prior posts had not been so antagonistic. Your negative rep likely reflects your attitude in prior posts. If you don't like it, then there's no one holding a gun to your head to stay here.

And if you're not coming back, I say GOOD BYE!!

Hey driver, IMO the reason noone seems to give a $h1t about your post is because of all the fanboy arguments and discussions that went on previously. I guess the perception is you are trying to rub something in our faces. So the response you got is more about the messenger not the message.

Believe me there are plenty of auto enthusiasts on here who drool over just about every car. Its just that a legacy GT post with driver72 attached seems to leave a bad taste.

Back on topic ... breaking the 14 second barrier is great, but no surprise. The mag numbers are always conservative. It should be interesting to see how the GT does with some ECU tuning for more PSI.

(P.S. Its too bad breaking the 14 second barrier doesnt get rid of the Subaru badge )
