There are a number of reasons not to buy a first year vehicle including 1) quality control issues (even with Acura, there were some first year problems for both the TL and TSX), 2) Updates and improvements that usually occur following the first year or two (like the XM radio, lighted wheel controls, etc on the 2005 TSX), 3) Dealers are generally unwilling to deal when a car first goes on sale.
If you can wait for a year or so, you will always be better off.

who's going to the show
May I suggest a meet & greet in Windsor on the 15th? A good place to meet might be the top level of the parking garage at Casino Windsor - easy to find and free parking. If you don't know your way around Motown very well - I am willing to act as tour guide for a day.
For those of you who can't attend - NBC will be airing a live two-hour special on the last day of the event.

Although I'm not really looking forward to it. There's not much too see except maybe the F430

I wish I had a Speedlite 420 for the indoor shots. Car shows are tough to shoot because of all the random light spots and reflections. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the built in flash is strong enough to fill in some of the shadows...
I'll be bringing my Sony Cyber-Shot digital. I prefer 35mm, but lugging around my Canon Eos-elan makes me look like a Japanese tourist, and I'm dorky enough as it is.
For those of you who have attended before, you know parking can be a bitch. Unless you want to walk four or five frigid blocks from an exposed lot - another insider tip is to park at the Greektown Casino on Lafayette St. and have your parking stub validated for free, then take the Peoplemover tram over (.50cents one way).
Have not attended the Chicago show, so I can't pass judgement. Attending the NAIAS will give you bragging rights though because it is the first of the year.

any of you gone to both the detroit and the chicago auto show, and if so, is the haul to detroit from chicago worth it?

super simple and ridiculously slack border crossing
A friend of mine may have a free ticket to go on supplier day, if so, I may go earlier than the 15th. If not, looks like we may have a meet & greet party of two - as long as you're not taking the train.
