2004 TL Concept..

Sorry, for a new topic but my thread was closed. I know that pics have been all over the internet (I've seen them ) . This will be the official public viewing and interior pics (which we haven't seen) will also be shown.. Also I assume more ideas about the specs will become clearer.. with the public press release. Assuming the rumors are true that the concept is 90% -95% accurate version of the 04 production TL

It was closed because there already have been two topics which had the pictures as well many discussions regarding its unveiling at the NY Auto Show later this week and this weekend, etc. Also keep in mind that specs may or may not be clear b/c the TL that is being shown is NOT the production model.

In addition to the links I posted in your other topic.. here is one discussing the rumored 280hp: http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...5&pagenumber=1

Gotcha.. I was just trying to let everyone know that the official unveiling is today... I also know that because of the close proximity to the actual TL release this year. The concept will probably closer than usual to what the actual TL will look like. Why are you trying to keep a fellow CL brother down

Not trying to keep you down.. it's just that if you do a search, you'll find a bunch of 2004 TL topics... and the most recent ones have already discussed what's being discussed in this topic... and whenever there is a duplicate topic, it usually gets closed. Don't take it personal, we've had to close about 3 other 2004 TL posts as well b/c they were talking about the same thing as the originals. We just don't need the same discussion 5 different times.

What is being debuted today is the same exact car from the pictures seen over the last week... nothing new. We won't know how close it is to production until we see some pics of a production version in the next few weeks/months. Once the specs and new photos come out after noon from ToV, then there may be some new info to talk about b/c of specs and possible new photo angles of the car.....

I really hope the final production model is LOTS different then the photos that have been posted.
The TL is a big part of Acura’s profits right now and may foretell the future style of the next CL replacement.
If THAT’S what it’s gonna look like I’m really disappointed with Acura.

I thought the TSX was a step in the right direction for Acura, but I’m really not impressed with the new TL so far.

wow, are you kidding??

im curious, what are your critisizms of the new TL???? it looks amazing! much sharper than the current gen....did you see the pics on autoweek yet??? the TSX is a good step in the right direction, but based on looks alone, this new TL is a LEAP in the right direction, much more agressive, great styling. i just hope the powertrain and interior are equally as impressive!

So what’s the deal with the side mirrors?
I doubt that will make it into production, but if it does, where are the views displayed?
Is there more then one screen inside?
I can’t imagine you’d want that displayed on the NAV screen all the time or have to toggle through views.

i hope the front end will be more distinguished.
many people will confuse it for the lower model TSX.

but it's starting to grow on me.

at least now, the TSX doesn't stand out too much
from the other models.

i'll be taking lots of pics at the new york auto show.

The official line from Acura...

Acura 'Concept TL' Debuts at New York International Auto Show
Production Model to Feature the Latest in High Technology
ascii | MSWord 25k

New York 04/16/2003 -- The Acura "Concept TL" performance luxury sedan debuted today at the 2003 New York International Auto Show. The concept features sleek, performance-oriented exterior styling indicative of the design of the next generation TL production model.

"Every aspect of this concept's design, from the aggressive front end to the short rear overhang, contributes to an aggressive, muscular style that conveys the TL's high-performance nature," said Tom Elliott, executive vice president, auto operations. "The Concept TL's dynamic design is a pure expression of Acura and provides an advance preview of the all-new 2004 TL."

The "Concept TL" was designed to evoke the image of the "ultimate athlete," a combination of power, speed and agility that delivers world-class performance.

The Concept TL is several inches shorter than the current production model for a tighter, sportier look. The stance is muscular and aggressive with pronounced fender flares and large, 4-piston Brembo brakes accenting the flangeless 19-inch alloy wheels and low profile, high performance tires.

The muscular body slopes forward in a pronounced wedge shape. On each side, a deep character line runs from a side marker on the front quarter panel to another in the rear. The sleek

cabin features flush mounted windshield glass, which improves aerodynamics while adding to the car's sophisticated demeanor. Compact side-view cameras further enhance aerodynamics while providing superior visibility. Every detail from the brushed aluminum Acura logo on the grille to the LED illuminated taillights is designed to evoke the feeling of precision craftsmanship and athleticism.

"The overall design conveys a feeling of tension," says Jon Ikeda, chief designer for the Concept TL, "like the muscles on a sprinter's arms and legs when he's ready to launch off the starting line."

A long, sleek hood accented with pronounced character lines, culminates in an aggressive front-end boasting large air intakes and an angular headlight assembly containing Xenon High Intensity Discharge headlights. Brushed aluminum accents, utilized on the signature five-sided Acura grille and throughout the car, add a high tech contrast to the silver metallic exterior. Instead of windshield wipers, the Concept TL is designed to use a series of jet nozzles, located in the cowl area, to shoot high-pressure air onto the windshield to keep it free from rain or snow during inclement weather.

In the rear, the Concept TL utilizes a short trunk lid with a pronounced lip and a V-shaped break below the trunk to express the car's aggressive nature. Dual exhaust pipes help to accent the car's muscular style.

"In California, and especially on the freeways, the part of a car you see the most is the rear end," explains Ikeda. "So we wanted to make sure that this concept looks just as fast and aggressive from the rear as it does in front."

In addition to providing a glimpse of the design that will be applied to the 2004 TL when it goes on sale this fall, Acura announced that the '04 TL will be fitted with some of the latest high technology available, including the world's first automotive application of multichannel DVD Audio 5.1, Bluetooth wireless telephone connectivity and XM" Satellite Radio.

Not quite sure what you were expecting... but Acura is moving towards one image, and moving away from the Honda type of styling. Once the TL is out and the new RL comes you'll notice that every Acura from the RSX to the RL will look very similar from the front, just like BMWs, Benzes, etc.......

I'm not digging it yet...looks like a TSX mated w/ the entry level Caddy....maybe it will grow on me. I'll have to see it in person before I pass judgement.

I don't mind the front end being similar on all models as long as the front end evokes some emotion. BMW has it, Benz has it...TSX/Concept TL doesn't evoke much emotion in me. That being said, this is a tight car. I'm liking it.

I love the fact that it's shorter. I hate long cars that claim to be "sporty". But what chance do we have of actually seeing stock Brembos and 19s in the production model?

This car looks far more aggressive and distinctive. But after seeing a number of pictures, I'm not sure if it's the right look for a luxury car. It looks like they were going for the 7series look but I think it makes the TL look less like a luxury car. I see elements of the Saturn Ion in the design and that's not quite sitting well with me. Maybe after I see some production models my view will change. But even with this design, I'd still buy one. Like I said "I'm liking it."

A: why would a sedan need brembos? It's not a performance model.

B: You can get a bluetooth phone now, besides, I like speakerphone more.

C: I think I'd rather take a more nimble TSX over what I believe (note, I say 'I believe' will be another boaty car).

D: I agree w/ the statement that it looks like a TSX mated to a CTS.

We'll just have to wait and see!

The front ends are just too plain. Neither very sporty or elegant...at least pick one. At least it doesn't have a Caddy front-end.

it reminds me of the 7 series bimmer. I like it alot, the rims look great. They kind of need to do something w/ the headlights though.

eclipse23 - you're actually complaining they put brembos on there? IMO its about time acura put some decent brakes on their cars, braking has NEVER been a strong point of acuras

Agreed, very concept... I don't see how compressed air can be very useful against bugs, mud, tar and bird droppings.

Although... no more parking tickets and stupid flyers on the car. Sounds almost promising.

eh.. its ok, as pull_t stated, the headlights remind me of a mustang...

I don't really dig the rear...

the profile shot is pretty tight though... maybe it'll grow on me, but it looks like a TSX right now. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Saw a kitted up TSX on the road the other day, looked pretty damn schweet.

Some nice ides, but I don’t know how some of that stuff could pass state inspection rules.
Just imagine a blown fuse and now 2/3 of your rear vision is gone until it gets fixed.
Not too safe in my opinion.

“Air wipers”….. NEVER. Wouldn’t do SHIT for HEAVY rain or ice/snow buildup.
Plus, to move enough air they would be LOUD as hell.

Japanese?? Remember it is the Japanese part (in the autos) that breaks. No country is perfect. Especially since the mechanicals are somewhat new, I expect some problems with the car, as there are with most any first year run, until they can get the bugs worked out. Maube I'm partial here, but I prefer the 02-03 TL grill to this one.

The tranny problem was design. The biggest problem w/ my CLS was fit and finish, sub-par if you ask me. The legend was built in Japan, so were the integras.

Im impartial, dont mind it, dont hate it, but i can garuntee you that these things wont make it into production.

1. Air-whipers
2. Brembos
3. The headlights will definitly look different
4. Side view camera-mirror
5. Intigrated exaust
6. 19 Inch wheels
7. No wheel well gap
8. Rear side markers
9. Possibly that line that goes along the side of the car, but that may stay
10. Large fender flairs
11. Im sure many things from the interior but we havnt gotten a look at that yet.

Again, overall, its ok, i realy dont like the back too much though

I hope the final production is better than the concept.
Usually it is the other way around.
So far I'm not to impressed with Acura's design direction.
To me it seems to much like a CTS.
Where's the interior pics?
