2003 Accord - Paint Problems - Bubbles & Rust

Hello,

Our 2003 Accord's hood paint is bubbling, then the bubbles poop and rust oozes out. Anyone heard of this happening and what if anything Honda will do to repair the problem?

Talked to the dealer and the factory Rep. and they dismissed the problem as normal wear. The car is only 1.5 year old.

Any help or ideas are appreciated.

Paul

Is the car covered under warranty? If not, I would still raise hell...there is no reason for that to happen on a car that young.

assuming you take care of it, wash it and have atleast waxed it once, there is NO REASON for that to happen. ie that should be coverd under warrranty. I would personally raise hell at the dealership, go to another dealership etc. and

Well, lots of people talking about this over at www.v6p.com.

This guy is in the same boat "27000 miles, 10 - 20 chips, about 5 of them rusting. Took it to the dealer, they blamed it on road debris"

It's the rusting I don't get.

Even without ever washing and waxing the car the paint should last more then a year. I would definitely take it to the dealer. I think that problem would fall under the “Corrosion" warranty.

I agree DownUnder. This is one of those rust claims. If the dealer slacks call Honda directly.

Yeah...seriously. That still shouldn't happen from a few road chips. I would demand that it be covered under warranty and fixed immediately.

Could skimping out on the clear coat cause the chips to damage the paint enough that it would show bare metal, therefore causing the rusting from the environment?

If it’s on the hood, it probably IS road debris causing the damage.
My hood is LOADED with stone chips.
I try my best to keep it cleaned and waxed so they don’t rust, but they’re still there.

If it were the sides or trunk lid then I’d think there was a problem with the paint job, but damage to the hood is almost always caused by stones & debris.

If you read your warranty, it only covers rust if it comes thru from UNDER the paint surface, not stone chips.
