2001 pathfinder CEL reset

I knew this already but ACURAZINE is the best site around!

My girlfriend has a 2001 nissan pathfinder and I signed her up for a nissan site, I don't really want to judge the site yet and say it sucks but no one is able to tell me on there how to reset her CEL light, does anyone know how to do that on here.

Usually the easiest method for most if not all cars is by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes.

Try taking it to a nearest Autozone, a couple years ago they used to pull and reset CEL's for free. Haven't been there in a while, so Im not 100% sure they still do it, but worth a try

I tried that and it didn't work, and I went to a few autozones and also advanced auto and I was told that they can read the codes now but they are restricted from resetting the computer, I understand where their coming from but I know there has to be a way, we can disconnect the battery on our cars and also pull out a certain fuse to reset, not sure why Nissan is so much complicated then that.

You need a OBDII code scanner, most major part stores have one and let customers use it in an effort to sell them the parts needed to fix it. It could be something simple like a loose gas cap but you don't know until you have the code pulled. There is no simple way to reset the code without a OBDII scanner, with an OBDII scanner its very easy, but its important to know why it came on, on 96+ vehicles the check engine light means something is wrong and it needs to be addressed. With some problem, a simple faulty sensor can cause expensive repairs if ignored.

In NY state your vehicle will not pass inspection if the CEL is on, you can not clear the codes and bring it in for inspection because the NYVIP system checks the readiness monitors.

I was in the automotive repair business for over 10 years, if you have any questions about what the code means let me know and I'll do what I can to help you.

I checked in with the future father in law - he doesnt know of a way to reset it without OBDII scanner, so as iTimmy said - pull the code to find out what it means.
