mustang stick? Auto?
mustang stick? Auto?
I'm thinking about looking into the 05-07 body style mustangs. It would be a daily driver so im not really sure if i should look at getting a stick or auto. Im looking more at the v6 for gas and insurance reasons, but ill prolly invest in a procharger in the future. So stick or auto? I know its personal preference but ive never had a stick as a daily driver.
I think there are better alternatives to a V6 mustang in the price range that would handle better, be more reliable, have more interior space, and get better gas mileage. From you sig, it looks like you have a CL (or TL) or TSX? I think all of those are a HUGE step up from a Stang.
If you're set on the stang, i'd get it in MT, atleast it won't be a complete slug.

I agree. V8 Mustang is worth it in my opinion because it is an incredibly modable car that has a body style which I think is lasting. However, a v6 mustang is ok for a woman, or someones parents, but I kinda snicker when I see them. Also, doing any types of performances mods on a V6 mustang is a joke (especially spending money to supercharge it (5K+ installed), which will decrease your mileage anyway). Instead of investing in a pro-charger for your anemic V6 go with a v8 from the get go, and do something to that down the road.
If you go with the V6 you may as well relax with an auto, otherwise I would say go with the stick.

All depends on your particular driving style and expectations. A manual V6 Mustang is still a fairly entertaining car, and for daily commuting it offers adequate performance. A 3.31 axle ratio is standard with the manual V6, allowing a nice compromise between fuel economy and performance. I've heard a few complaints in regards to the S197 '05-'07 manual Mustangs exhibiting a little side to side slop while shifting, this apparently being rectified for the '08 MY. A friend has an '07 V6 automatic that he enjoys very much. I've driven it and it seems to be nice package. For resale, I would definitely consider the automatic if you choose the V6, as it generally appeals to the majority of V6 Mustang purchasers.
Personally I prefer the rather subdued appearance of the V6 Mustangs compared to their V8 brethren, but you may prefer otherwise. Ford Racing now offers a tremendous amount of exterior items, as well as a surprisingly large amount of suspension and engine upgrades for V6 Mustangs.

I'm not sure if you like it but I would insist on the 03-04 Cobras. They only come in stick, and they have an Eaton supercharger from the factory. I prefer the positive displacement superchargers over the centrifugal (Procharger) style anyway... the boost is linear. I have heard that the 05+ doesn't have the understeering problem that the base and GT have though, but if you get a Cobra you won't have to worry about it.
We can only offer advice though, its up to you in the end to decide what you want. Drive the automatic and manual models and try the Cobra. In order of preference I would go with the 03-04 Cobra first, then the 05+ GT (manual, then auto) and then the manual V6 with the auto V6 being last. That's just me though. The manual, V8 GT gets nearly the same mileage as the automatic V6, but in either case the manual is probably more fun unless you have a lot of traffic in your commute.

I've test driven a manual GT ('05) before, but not the auto. The stick shift and clutch on the GT were decently weighted, pretty precise and smooth overall, so I wouldn't mind driving it even for commuting in town. I drove a 5-sp manual Integra in SoCal for over a decade, and didn't find it to be inconvenient despite traffic.

All excellent points you make here.
For the OP, do you drive a lot in stop and go traffic where you would be shifting a lot? I drove the V8 with a stick and the clutch was pretty light and the shifter pretty smooth. It wouldn't be all that bad as a daily driver. But for resale value, which isn't a concern to you presently, I would think an auto in a V6 would be the better pick. Conversley, I would assume a stick would be more desireable than an auto with the V8.
Here's a thought. Get the V6 and when you are ready to mod it just swap the 6 with a complete V8 from a GT. You would still list it as a V6 with the insurance company but have the performance of the GT.
In my opinion of the mustang its either V8, or no mustang. To me it just seems to defeat the purpose of a mustang. If you want a V6 car with good gas mileage and good ins rates then the mustang isn't the car for you. just my
. good luck.
. good luck.
mustangs are garbage, terrible interiors and terrible blind spots, plus they just look cheap.
if your gonna get one, at least get a v8. the v6 mustang is one of the most pathetic cars out there, they get smoked by everything. the only people who drive v6 stangs around here are busters and high school girls.

I've owned two S197 Mustangs; a GT500 for a short time and now an incoming Bullitt edition. Don't have any complaints. I've driven V6 auto Mustangs and see nothing wrong with them. If the car appeals to the original poster then so be it. Everyone's automotive choices are different for various reasons. Your well informed opinions notwithstanding.

I wouldnt waste the money modding a v6 stang. For all the money it will cost you to procharge a v6, you might as well get the v8. Bottom line is that you will likely regret the purchase of the v6, the gas mileage isnt much if you can drive normally, and procharging it will get you to the power level of a stock v8. Not worth it in my opinion. If you are liiking for a good looking fun v6 with a manual, then get an 08 Accord.

but lets all be honest here, how many times have wannabe thug punks in rice rocket v6 mustangs tried to race you? it has happened alot of times to me and my brother, and our record against them is flawless. mind you we dont have super cars or modded turbo civics, we consistently smoked mustangs in a z3 coupe and a 2000 TL. my roomate used to eat mustangs for lunch in his civic only pushing 6psi b16 turbo.

of all the terminators, Cobra's, Boss's, Mach 1's and just sick GT's of all bodies the only one you would drive is a busted hatch back 5.0 ?

the only mustang i would drive is a pre 93 5.0 LX hatchback. period.
not a fan of cobras or mach1s, if i wanted a super american muscle car i would go chevy. i usually hate everything ford makes, especially mustangs. the only fords i like are crown vics and 50s.
and sorry it has nothing to really do with pure power, handles, modability, etc. i just have this bad impression of mustangs in my mindset. while i absolutely love the old school 50s, i really do not like the 94-97 or 98-02 bodystyles, and i could never picture myself driving one. i just imagine all the girls from my high school and sun tanned whiteboys with sleeveless shirts driving cars like that. just a mindset issue thats all. i havent driven a mach1, but ive been in a 2002 GT before and was really dissapointed in it. my dad was thinking about buying it but luckily he got something else.

Trojanman:I agree. for muscle cars i'm a Dodge guy(with the challenger coming soon) and Charger out.
but what do you have against the GT500. other than being a little chunky it's a 12 second car out of the box.
