2001 Cadillac DTS

Guys,
What do you think about this....my Pops back in Georgia says his friend has a 2001 Cadillac DTS in pristine shape with 90K on it for $6500. Looks just like this one:

Any of you have any ownership experiences with these? I've always liked the ways these looked, but never thought twice about it until my pops called me about it and I realized how cheap they are. I figure it would make a nice 3rd car to poke around in...

Hopefully the newer Cadillac's were more reliable then STS my parents bought new. Granted it was a '94 model, but it got a bad leak from the oil pan (the engine needs to be removed to fix it), the starter went out a couple times and it's nearly impossible to fix yourself and if you take it to the shop it's about a good $1200-1400 mostly for labor.

I like these Deville's too but I don't think I'd ever get one. I've seen too many caddy's with head gasket issues and I don't want to deal with that...
Looks really good in pearl white tho

That era of caddy is not its prime, a big FWD car with modest luxury appointments, a big underpowered V8 and as its been pointed out, they are expensive to repair. I would pass.

I actually just got off of the phone with the guy selling it...he won't sell it to me or my father because of the repair work it needs.
-Transmission replaced 40K miles ago due to torque converter issues, slipping again.

-Window regulators failing again (I didn't know American cars had this problem!?!?)

-Leaking front head gasket

-Error code for rear suspension system, he guesses some sensor is broken

Otherwise physically pristine. Just by reading the list I thought he was trying to sell a BMW!
Oh well, seemed like it would be cool to grab a Caddy to cruise around in for cheep!

My dad has had 2 of them now, Both were 100% trouble free to 150k+ when he traded them in. Only thing he ever put into it was gas, oil, tires and brakes. Nice freeway cruisers with great passing power and good mileage (he gets 27-28 MPG HWY)
