don't do it. They are very nice cars but have horrible reliability records. see consumer reports and msn auto and other sources out there. They are very comfortable and have good power, but depreciate fast and have poor reliability.

I test drove one when they first came out and was left very underwhelmed, now having seen how they age I am glad I didn't get one. And that was 5 years ago, the car world is forever changing and I didn't like it then and things are so much better then they were.
The only neat thing was the rear seat, it was some what higher then the front seats so it was sort of like being a movie theater. It also had V8 muscle, but it wasn't smoothly delivered - not a "drivers" car. Cheapness was a common of a theme with the interior.

BTW if you're looking at the LS at least go for the '03+ LS they improved it a LOT. I rented a '04 LS V8 from Hertz and it was a really nice car with power to pass other cars easily on the highway. Infact on a lonely stretch of highway I got it upto 130MPH with ease, but that's were about the limiter spoiled the fun though.

well the car has only 50k miles... it has a few new parts like wiper motor, headlights, fog lights, all exterior chrome trims, tie-rod ends... the interior is mint... and the exterior is also very clean. It also drives very smoothly... Plus i could get it for only 12 000$. Insurance seems to be high for that car though... almost twice as much as my TL...

Its a nice car but I wouldn't get rid of a TL for it. I just don't like it's power delivery and the tranny seems rough, but compared to Acura trannies it aint nothing.

It actually has some of the best handling for a 4 door sedan, on par with a 540 (not refering to Ms and AMGs etc).
But yeah, it its slightly rough around the edges (power delivery, interior is o.k., etc.)
Seems to much of an old farts car though.

I was going to buy one of these until I found out how shitty they are. Its made by Ford so you know what to expect. Some of the main problems I read about were tranny issues, window motors crapping out left and right, condensation in headlights, oil leaking into spark plugs. I wanted one of these cars pretty bad but that stuff was too much. They did make a 5-speed version of the V6 from 2000-2002. They are hard to find, but may eliminate one of the biggest problems (the automatic tranny).

I looked at buying one as well before I bought my Acura, and I'm glad I stuck with the Acura.
A friend of mine bought an V6 LS three years ago and it's been a pain in the ass since he bought it. He's been taking it into the shop 3-4 times a year. Nothing major, but just a lot of little things that needed to be taken care of. The ONLY way I would ever buy one is if it were under full warranty.
Good Luck...

The LS's are not bad cars. I had the pleasure of driving a manual v-6 with the sport package and it was a fun car. That car now has over 100k miles on it and it's still running strong. It belongs to my cousin and he beats it like he stole it. As far as reliability, I'd take a few squeeks and rattles over 5 dead trannies any day of the week.

My parents have an LS V6 AT and their only complaint is the lack of power (and they DON'T drive in excess of posted speed limits, unlike their son ). I imagine the V8 model would remedy that lack of power. Outside of that, it seems to be built well and has a very Euro (read non-domestic) feel to it.
That said, I would follow DownUnder's advise:
IMHO, the LS is a good example of what Ford could do when their management team members do not use their heads as 'proctologist tools'.
