2 new BMWs in the family
My father is finishing the paper work now but he is leasing two 2006 BMWs. I am pretty sure he got a good deal but would like to hear your opinion.
Car # 1. Jet-black on tan leather 330i - premium package, 6 speed auto, navigation and satellite radio prep. MSRP $42,845
Car # 2. Titanium metallic silver on black leatherette 325i. Power front seats, 6 speed auto and satellite radio prep. MSRP $34,415
36 month terms, 12k year, SIGN & DRIVE, only 1st payment due. Total monthly payment for the two cars is $1,164 (including tax). What do you think?

What your sister who does not know how to drive with very little driving experience gets a BMW 325i thats real intelligence for you.
$1,164 is an ok deal, especially when your only getting 12K/year.

Would you rather her drive my mothers CLS500. The 325i is a great entry-level sport luxury sedan. Is it ideal for a 16 year old no, however the car is built very solid with high levels of safety, nimble handling and adequate power. Not to mention a crisp exterior design with plush interior with included maintenance. Would I take it over my G35 that I received in my Jr. year of high school most likely not but for my sister the 325i is a great automobile.
By the way, did you ever get the M6?

Your right the 325i is a great car, but IMO not for a 16 year old, don't mean to be harsh, but when I comes to the stats look how many people are killed from driving in the 16-21, compared to older people.
Personally if it was my daughter I would start her of in a 2006 Honda civc coupe, until such time I felt she was experienced enough.... again don't mean to hijack your thread... But that's how I would look at your situation.

I hear you F900. My son turns 16 this October and the wife & I are researching what the most appropriate 1st car for him should be. (likely a 4dr, midsize sedan with AT and comprhensive saftey features: the 6G Accord and earlier 3G Altima come to mind.)
But, I am fairly certain that I would not get him anything brand new for a first car. It does take time to become acclimated to today's driving environment. A basic reliable car with auto/air should be the most a new driver should have....that is until they gain experience.

Ah another beat on the young rich kids threads
Aside from your parents parenting style I am still wondering why get 2 of the same cars? Just find it odd to have 2 of the same cars in the family. But to each there own.
Too bad on the automatic for the 330

A first car should be something sensible, safe, and probably FWD. Most teens are so inexperienced behind the wheel that the safer driving characteristics of a slow, but well engineered FWD sedan are better for not just their own safety, but the safety of all around them.

You guys are humorous. I don’t care if you think my sister should have a Honda or a bmw. The other cars we were considering for her were the Acura TL and IS250. Out of those 2 I personally would of chose the bmw. The bmw is costing 18k over three years, the price of a loaded civic coupe. The 330i for my dad is a good choice and will be a nice sporty ride coming from an old mans Lexus SC430.
I wanted to know your opinions on if it was a good deal or not. 76k worth of cars, only 1164 out the door today and that is the monthly payment. 36 months, 12k year miles.

My question is how much did they take off the sticker? If they took off nothing, the payments aren't bad ($1191-1200 from BMWUSA and Edmunds). However, if you bought 2 cars and they took nothing off than that BMW dealer just raped your dad.
BMW dealers are dealing on the E90's. Fields BMW in Orlando offered $2,700 off on a similiar 330i 2 months ago (Red, Black leather, Prem, Sport, Auto, Cold Weather) when I was looking.

those prices are discounted. Keep in mind he only put the 1st payment down of 1164 and nothing else for walking out with two cars. I feel the deal is pretty good. On my mothers CLS it had a sticker of 73.5k (76k BMW*) that he pays 1100 including tax, 12k year 39 month term (36 bmw*). 1st payment + TTL down + dealer fee.

Yo playa, I don't know if your dad got a good deal or not, cuz i dont know that stuff with leases, but shit....a 330i msrp of 42k is damn expensive...there wasnt anything else in the category he was interested in?

I agree with the others who have posted. I bought my 97 Altima myself as a first car and I don't need anything more. I can drive my mom's TSX a lot but I still enjoy my car even though its pretty basic in form and function. BMW as a first car? Spoiled rotten.

One thought......I am not sure if a 12k mile per limit is a smart idea for a 16 year old. I know I put well over 20k a year for the first couple of years. I drove an 89 Honda Civic and a 91 Eclipse. Had I drove a brand new BMW, it would have been more. You know, all the friends want to be seen in the nicest car.......
Ok two thoughts------It is very rare a teenager takes great care of a car, especially a girl (no offense, but I have seen my sister and her friend's cars). I am pretty sure they charge you for dents, scratches, etc. on a lease.
With those two thoughts in mind----Your dad might have been better off buying her the car.

That is my 10 year old brother in the car. Ok here is the deal; if I can sell my 03.5 G35 with 34,200 miles on it for 21-22k then my father will give me the 330i he leased for himself. My father would get a new 330i that has every option with an MSRP of 45,965. He really wanted the sport package which this new one has. Selling price 44,965. 12k year 36 months, 1364 @ delivery. Money factor of .00225, 64% residual giving monthly payments of ~670. I am going to work on the price tonight to get it down to ~640 and decide if I want the leased 330i over my bought 03.5 G35.

I have to add my
I didnt get my first car until I was 17 & my mom bought me a used 97 Chrysler Sebring LXi..
Being it was MY first car..I think it was a overall good car for a beginner..Trust ME!
I advanced to a brand new TransAm when I graduated the following year and that was my baby!
After I sold it to pay for my moms chemo treatments..LONG STORY... she ended up getting me a used 318is which was a beautiful car. It was definatly a nice car & I ended up in more trouble because of that car than any I have ever owned and I was older & more mature!
I really think ur sister is lucky to have this car as her first but in all honesty..I hope she is one to take very good care of it!
I would never personally hand the keys over to my child to a car like this has his first car but thats MOI.. but a huge congrats to her..
