1989 Porsche 944
Always loved these things. In 2 weeks I'm back home and need a car. What do you guys think?

He bought the car a month ago and now is selling it at a loss....and the brake light is on. I'd bet you a cold beer that he found that the car needs something expensive (everything on a Porsche is expensive) and is trying to get out from under it.
Unless you get a really good Porsche mechanic gave the car his blessing I'd stay away from it.

Yep, I'd pass... unless you can get a clean PPI (pre-purchase inspection) on it from a porsche mechanic that knows 944's very well.

warranty>then no warranty stick w/ your GTI/Rabbit idea, couple hundred a month beats thousands and months in a shop. But it does look real clean

If you can find an independent Porsche service center to take care of it for you, and a good source for parts, then go for it.
If not, it's going to be like a hammer that you hit yourself on the head with. Only the hammer would be cheaper.

cliffnoted story:
-wanted a beefed up B-Series CRX
-bought CRX HF in crap condition for $360
-slowly restored condition, replaced parts, but did not fix rust and did not repaint
-purchased extremely clean CRX Si in Texas. On the drive home, timing belt rips
-sold first car but keep all aftermarket products. Make $500 profit
-swap in D16 to get it moving
-sell 2nd car, barely break even
Original plan was to get a new Rabbit 5MT, but a GTI is a reasonable dream. Only issue is financing with school in the winter months. I figured this thing would be a lot of fun, but I'm not a Porsche guy and as stangg said, I feel it's time to settle down with all this older car-modding crap. I need a car that will take me through Undergrad and Law school, and a new VW under warranty hopefully will do that. I've heard nothing but good things about non-chipped MK5 GTIs in terms of reliability.

If you look at the older AP1's, they won't coast much more then a new civic or fit, but now we're back in used car territory...
edit: And it's the wrong time of year to buy a 'vert up here in the north... 'verts cost more in the spring, less in the fall/winter...

ALSO: My local dealer was selling a 2002 S2K with 14,000 miles for $20k! This was in the winter though.
