1989 Jeep Cherokee 4x4
Does anyone own a 1989 Jeep Cherokee 4x4? Or any other model year close to that? Are they somewhat reliable? Thinking of picking one up as a daily driver for the winter.
Thanks!
Thanks!

My friend had 1. He sold it with 160K. In the time he had it(a few years) it needed shocks, valve gasket, PCV valve, & AC work. Also the glove box door came off. His oil pan was leaking too(never fixed)
But other then that it was a tank. He drove it several times on long 500+ mile trips. It got about 19MPG as well.

what engine does it have? I have an 87 wrangler with the carbbed 4.2L, it has a fair amount of problems, but the 2.5L and 4.0L's are TANKS. But for $350 u might as well but it anyways, or else I will

How funny is that, I do own a 1989 Cherokee. It has 120,000 miles on it, and with regular maintenance it runs like a champ. I love it so much i use it as my daily driver. It eats a quart of oil every 1.5 months, and the exhaust manifold gasket has developed a small leak, which i have fixed, and i had to get some exhaust components needed to be changed throughout the years, because of NY winters with salt, but other than normal wear and tear for a 17 year old car, it has been the best and most reliable vehicle that i have owned. I am currently in the process of picking up a late 90's cherokee, because i love them so much.

Wow... for $350 you're stealing that. Odds are something is wrong with it, but still...
Anyway, closest I could find is 91

I wouldn't think twice about buying that. You can beat on that thing all day long and it will keep on truckin'. Think I'm kidding? Check this out... http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...0038644&q=jeep
As long as it's the 2.5L or the 4.0L, you should be good to go. I'd buy it!

BTW, even if it turns out to be a complete toilet, I promise you, you could make your money back by parting it out here.. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=11
Also, motors, trannys, and transfer cases for these things are a dime a dozen in the salvage yard. Oh, and before I forget, Get this.... The AT's are strong as hell and actually tend to be more reliable that the MT's so I've read.

My family owns a '93 Grand Cherokee Limited that we use around the yard. It has 230K miles on it, is still on its original exhaust, and 3rd transmission. It's starting to let go but overall, for a car of its age and milage, its remarkable how well it runs.
If I were in your shoes, it's $350, you'd be a fool not to pick it up.
