Can anyone name anything that fits this description other than a C32 or S4?

I'm looking to pick something up used -- never gonna take the new car depreciation hit ever again. The CL raped me.
Would have to wait a year or so for an IS350. CTS-V a little out of my price range, but I definitely did look into them already. I should have mentioned the CTS in my list above, since I've test driven all 3 so far. Just looking for any I may have overlooked.

Burn some dust here
I loved my old C32. Definitely get one if you can find one that has been taken care of.
As far as the S4 goes, it's ok. I drove one before I bought the C32 and IMO it is definitely behind the C32/M3 in the areas you described.

Everyone and their mom has an E60 BMW. An M5 will always be an M5. I'm not a big fan of the new 5 series inside and out.

After having driven the 545i, I can say that it is a BEAST!! That said, it's doubtful that the 325hp 545i could outaccelerate the 400hp E39 M5....with the 545i now discontinued, I'm certain the 360hp 550i narrows that gap substantially.

With that, why not get a E39 545 where you'll be under the E39 M5 costs and you'll still acheive the mid-13 second pass.

I agree with the 550i It's as close as you'll get to the E39 M5, but it will still be a little slower.
I see A LOT of new E60s around here. Most of them are 525is, not many 545is.

I was going to disagree but now that I think about it, I DO see a LOT of E60s on the road around here in central NJ. I'll even venture to say that I see more of them than the E39s.

I didn't think they ran mid 13s. Maybe the new 550is will do mid 13s. But I agree, 13.8 or 13.5, not much difference there.
I just don't like the E60 bodystyle, that is all. They are growing on me, but I think a car shouldn't have to grow on you. It should wow you the first time you see it.

I'm really leaning toward the C32... if I can find one that isn't silver or black. Tectite Gray or Orion Blue would be me preference - with every option available. You can pick them up for low $30's with only 30 or 40k miles on them. I just worry about the longerm reliability with the S/C. Does Ronnie still lurk around here?

My bro drives a 2002 C32 (plates read "02C32AMG" and no one gets it). He is waiting to unload his lemon. He doesn't even drive it hard and it's been to the shop at least a dozen times since he's bought it new. If you ever do a search talking about a C32 ... I'm chimed in with my bro's latest complaint. Good thing he knows the former MB Canada president (who's now in charge of Austral-asia) ... he's gotten some things looked after. But he will DEFINITELY unload his car (only 55000km) before the warranty expires.
I've driven it many times while he's away and let me say ... while the power is there ... it's not a very friendly car. It doesn't drive smoothly (you can feel it switch gears ... sometimes hesitates when to go from 2nd <-> 3rd) and you hear the whistle of the 'charger all the time ... even when you are accelerating really slowly. Handling is very good but the OEM Pirellis suck. My bro optioned it all out, less the irritating COMAND system. Audiophile sound is very good -- that's the biggest compliment I'll give the car. Car interior still smells new, too.
IMHO, a C32 is like playing the market on margin. If you don't know what you're doing, you're going to take it like a Greek. MB quality, especially AMG ... not very reliable. (You must have read about the thread about the CLS AMG going bad in less than 2000 miles!)

There is no E39 545, only a E39 540 which had 290hp.
The E60 comes in the 545, and now 550.
Get an E39 M5. They are so hot!! Timeless design, pretty well built (less electrical gremlins than the new 5s) and plenty of power.

Honestly (of course this is biased) I prefer the 540i 6 speed over the new 545i. The 540is were really underrated. The real HP numbers are more in the 300s People over at bimmer forums are running high 13s with low 100s trap speeds.
Plus I think the E46s and E39s are gonna be the last "real" bimmers.
Here's a dyno of a 540i. 281.97 HP and 305.78 Ft-Lbs of torque. That's "only" 50 less whp than the M5 and about 20 less lb/ft of torque.

E39 M5 = definite candidate.... also consider '00-'02 E55 and the Jag S-Type R.... do Jags have rattles though... dunno. maybe even the last Audi S8.... but its a bit slower than mid 13's...

I'm sure it depends from car to car, but I just googled and found this one
