100 Fastest North American Cars

Someone on the Subaru boards just posted this list. The Forester XT is on the top 100 list of the fastest accelerating production cars. Pretty cool for a grocery getter.

http://www.autofacts.ca/classics/fast.htm

The list is an interesting mix of cars -- there's a lot of 1960s muscle mixed with more modern sporty cars. The NSX and the S2000 are on the list too. Actually I think that says a lot for their NA V6 and I4. Almost every car on the list is a V8, or a turbocharged 4 or 6 clyinder (apart from Porsche H6 and BMW I6).

Of course, this picture also comes up every time someone mentions the base performace of the Forester XT. It was posted in the WSJ when the XT came out. Great advertisement.

Ironically they run the same 1/4 mile times but the Z traps higher and pulls to over 150mph. So that family of 5 w/dog will eventually get a view of the Z's rear.

Nice AD, but I’m sure it’s much slower if the family of five and the dog are actually INSIDE the car along with the driver.

Quite impressive nonetheless. Too bad it’s a fuddy-duddy looking wagon.

Maybe it's because they're canadian, eh?

They do give a large disclaimer about how these numbers were obtained, especially the older cars. Take some of it with a grain of salt. Interesting list though.

I think this Suburu is PERFECT for that whipped husband/father who is still pissed the ball and chain made him buy the wagon instead of the sedan, and this way he can still rip it out of the hole and f--k w/ some sportier cars on the road and make some people feel like f-ing dorks b/c they just got their Z' or s2k beat by a good driver in a fuddy-duddy wagon!

The Dodge SRT-4 is on there!! If only these CL's and TL's were RWD or AWD, we'd be on that list!

If you read the chart, the numbers are from magazine data which we all know has it's flaws with respect to quality of driver in the car. If we put the best driver in any car, I'm sure the numbers & list would be different.

They were actually stock. Only about 50 each of the SS Cuda and SS Dart. They were not very streetable but they could be purchased through a Dodge/Plymouth dealer just like a regular car. http://www.budgetperformance.com/articles/hemidart/

The 'Premium Package' is a Subaru-ism for moonroof, leather, and a few other extras. These don't come on the base model. Don't like it?--

Yes they did. They weren't your typical showroom car though. They didn't even come with paint. Here is what the Dart version looked like. This one has paint.

Here is the letter you got from Chrysler when you got your new Super Stock Cuda:

Yes it is. They were strictly a drag car though. THey were advertised as having 500hp but they actually dynoed over 700. They run 8s with a few mods. Only 50 made though. Would probably cost as much as an Enzo today for a mint original one
