Question 08 rdx tech or 07 mdx

My fiance and I (both in our 30s) come from a 02 RSX and 06 civic. Now, planning to replace the RSX with a SUV. We have just started looking. We would like to stay around with hondas/acuras for most part unless a compelling alternative exists.

Some considerations for us:
1) reasonable space, should be comfortable for 4 people (when my 60+ parents visit from India), and for baby in the coming years.
2)reasonable price. we would spend some money for useful luxury, but are not too crazy about bling bling.
3) mostly driving in city, but may make a few long trips.
4) long term reliability, and low cost of maintanence

I found two in a similar price range. Which would you prefer given our considerations.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

So, we want an AWD.

A. Welcome to Azine
B. I would get the MDX...it will offer more room for you, and with family and a baby...you will need that room.

As d-town said, welcome to Acurazine.

I think you're going to be most happy with the MDX. It is very roomy for four (has a fold-flat third row for hauling more people as well), has a very smooth and powerful V-6, is a little sporty but also very comfortable (a great, if perfect, balance). The RDX is smaller and more urbanesque. It would be fine for a couple with a small child or two, but if you're regularly going to be carrying more than two adults (including the driver), then the MDX is better. The RDX is much sportier, and it might even be too sporty. Its engine is good but actually not much more efficient than the larger V-6 MDX.

Also be aware that the MDX is only sold with all-wheel drive, and the RDX only was as well until the 2010 models, which also can be had with front drive. That should make things easier for shopping!

I would also like to add, my friends mom has a 08 MDX and we have put 6 rather larger teenagers in there. One in the front, 3 in the middle, and 2 in the third row. That was for an 1.5 hour drive. It was comfortable the entire ride. Although, not much you can bring with you when the seats are up.

The MDX is the better choice, it's a whole lot smoother than the RDX, and as well gets some respectable gas mileage both in the city and highway. I've been happy with mine for almost 50K miles now!

MDX. Better looking, more room, more power. Can't go wrong with it.

I'm pretty much in the same position, trying to decide between the two. Don't know what I'm going to do yet. I haven't driven the MDX yet, so I can't comment much on it. I had an RDX as a loaner a couple months ago and liked it just fine, although it did take some getting used to coming from a sedan (04 TSX). Personally, I think I'd be happier with the MDX in the long term, but it's a tough choice. I want to make sure I get something big enough for my current and future needs, w/o going overboard. I'm just not sure the RDX has a big enough cargo space. I have a house now, and find myself cursing my TSX every weekend for not having enough hauling space/capability, and since the RDX is really not much bigger, I don't know if it will be enough. Obviously, it has the hatch which makes things a hell of a lot easier, but it's not real big. I also want something a little smoother and softer than my TSX, and the RDX is pretty sporty and has a stiff (for an SUV) suspension, although it is slightly softer than my TSX. Also, the MDX is more luxurious than the RDX, which is pretty appealing to me. They also get similar MPG, despite the size difference.

There are lots of points to compare and you really have to think about what you need for the near future. I'm taking my time, trying to figure that all out.

MDX, RDX is fine for a couple and a dog. If you need utility from your SUV that means space. I have never been disappointed with anything about my MDX.

Wow, it looks like the its MDX... unanimous. Thank you for all your suggestions. I would like to continue to get more inputs.

If I do make up my mind on the MDX, how useful is the tech package. Also what would be insurance rates on this one, for someone who is 30+, with good driving record and credit.

We bought a grey/grey 08 mdx with tech package, with 25k miles. CPO. paid $ 35900. probably a bit expensive, but it had everything we wanted at a price we could afford.

Thank you all for the suggestions.

Post them on either photobucket.com, imageshack.com, or even the albums on here. After you host them somewhere, get the direct link to the picture (www.whateversiteyouuse.com/yourimage.jpg).

Next, click the yellow box with a mountain in it above the text box:

You should see this:

Paste the link there, click OK and you should now see your link surrounded by [IMG] and [/IMG] in the text box. Or you can just copy and past the link directly to the reply text box and surround it with the [IMG] and [/IMG] tags.
