08 accord test drive...disappointing
So today while I was at the Honda dealership waiting for my new brakes to be put on, I was looking at the accords and one of the dealers started talking to me and offered a test drive so I figured I shouldn't turn it down.
I drove the V6 coupe, first of all the car is very big for an accord and for a coupe. The inside is very spacious for me, and i'm 6'3". On the road the acceleration was a let down. It was a 268hp V6 engine that felt no faster then my 200hp CL...major let down, and the handling wasn't that good. The car, in my opinion is not worth the about 28k their charging for it...

i hope Honda decides to downsize the Accord in the 9th generation to the 6th and 7th gen size again. look at the 09 Maxima, Nissan decided to downsize it just slightly versus the current boatsized Maxima.

I think the OP was expecting the Accord to be something it wasn't, even with the V6 it's not a sports coupe. It is a family sedan(or in this case coupe) that offers a quiet ride and competitive quality throughout, with honda's reputation for reliability.

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the current Accord. I purchased my '05 six speed Accord coupe new after test driving several sedans and sports coupes alike, and felt it to be the best value for the money at the time. I drive it rarely, but each time I do I continue to be impressed by it's dynamics and excellent road manners. Other than having the seat frame modified to accommodate my height, I have yet to regret my purchase.
Recently I test drove an '08 coupe V6/ automatic variant, and I was less enthusiastic than when I first drove my '05. It definitely felt heavier, and not quite as lithe or entertaining as the previous generation. It's appearance is of course subjective, but I actually prefer the appearance of the previous generation.
I hope Honda does well with the current model, but if I were in the market to replace my '05, I would certainly look very hard at the current offerings from other manufacturers before I would commit to another Accord.

How is the V6 coupe slow?
It does a 1/4 mile in the low 14's..

Yeah I think the OP pretty much set up the Accord for failure with such lofty expectations.
But I do think Honda could've done better. In pictures it looks OK but you don't know just how huge those headlights are in person. Not ugly, but it's the first thing I noticed when I finally saw it live. And there's chrome on the exterior door handles, but on the inside, it's that fake aluminum crap that called the RSX's interior home for quite a few years. WTF?!

Accords going back to the 80's had proper chrome handles inside...

You don't have to go that far back. My '06 has nice solid-feeling chrome handles.

the new accords are buttt fugly. every honda accord built after 98 is trash, all the ATs have transmission problems. check out carcomplaints.com if your thinking about purchasing a 04+ sedan.
i have lost alot of faith in honda lately. the only hondas i will drive are in the 88-94 range. one of my favorite accords are the cb7s.

I have an '04 Accord with an AT, and it's perfect. No problems. Wife has an '03 Civic, and again, no problems. Making these blanket statements about trash and all Hondas suck makes you look like an idiot.

I think the Accord coupe is fine for what it is... A FWD coupe for under $30K that not a sports car, but is a little sporty...
After owning a CLS 6spd for over 5 years (basically a pimped out accord), I don't think I'd be too excited about driving the accord either since it would be a pretty similar experince to what I'm already driving...

What Would Don Draper Do?
the accord coupe is one of my favorites today. i think it's a great looking car inside and out (though i'm not a big fan of the button happy center console).
but like GM said, you have to take it for what it is.

Even though all test thus far have resulted in those times?
Even Road & Track who typically posts slower times got a 5.9/14.5.
I guess the AT is slower but not by much.

The new accord's 0-60 is not that fast trust me.
