07 Camry vs 3G TL
I hope I won't get ass kicked by a camry.

Honda should do better. Toyota can pull 22/31MPG out of 3.5 liter 268HP engine.

heck, even the 2006 Hyundai Azera can keep up or even beat TL/CLS.

This horsepower war is getting a little bit rediculous, if you ask me. Sure, this equates to more powerful cars for less money, but for goodness' sake: back in 1999, the BMW M3 had 240hp. Now, Accords and Camrys are meeting and beating that number. The super-exotic NSX has had 290hp for quite a number of years, and now midsize luxo-barges are meeting and beating that number.
Will the next BMW 3-series base model be powered by a 350hp V8? What will the top-of-the-line vehicles have? Or are we reaching the limits of the 6-cylinder engine?

A family sedan doesn't need more than around 200hp to get around and pass with authority. 268hp is ridiculous. Even the Accord's 240hp is a lot! What's next, 400hp family sedans?

It's funny to see more hp in all these cars when speed limits arent getting any higher.
Expensive cars used to have power and nice interiors going for them. Once every car has plenty of power and a nice interior(Accord is a good example), then what will justify a 50k car like an Audi A6?
It is getting to the point where there is a lot of power to the front wheels though,..........the impala is FWD even (according to the show I saw last week).
HAHAHAHA,.......nice avatar Jack n Coke.......LOL.

x 1,000,000,000,000As far as Toyota's new Camry V6 goes, it's about d#@n time they brought the CV6's power/performance up to that of the AV6 and Altima 3.5. And I have NO problem with it being as powerful as the more upmarket sports sedans.

watever happened to toyota saying that they were gonna stay out of the horsepower war??
but then again, i'm kinda glad they didn't....just another way to drive automakers to do better.....if u dont like HP then buy the 4cyl camry or the 4cyl alty or the 4cyl accord
no one's forcing u to buy a high powered family sedan...it's jus an option for ppl, like myself, who want the extra power

I have in-person photos from the NAIAS. The front of the 2007 Camry is ugly in person.
... but in V6 models, you'll only be seeing it in your rearview mirror before you move over to the 'slow' lane.
WATCHOUT SUNNY, GRANNY GOT DA POWER NOW!

Looks like toyota has a little mazda envy. And with both toyota and honda making v-6's, the potential for thses motors are endless. Honda is already squeezing the horsepower that bmw was squeezing out of the M a few yeares ago.

so sad because I have one!I have driven both the Accord v6 6 spd and the 3G TL in auto. Between the 244hp in the accord and the 258hp in the TL with the added weight, it really doesnt feel like the TL is any.. faster.
Honda needs to do better than a 14hp difference going from a 3.0 to a 3.2, especially with the new camry coming out with 268hp.
Shame we cant get the sh-awd and the 3.5 in the TL and a V8 rwd in the RL.

Car and Driver's numbers seem to agree with your assertion. The last couple of issues featured both the TL 6MT and Accord V6 sedan 6MT and the acceleration numbers are nearly identical, with a slight edge to the Accord.

but nissan is already moving away from the 3.5....toyota's a lil behind in my opinion...nissan will be introducing a new VQ end of this yr for their 07 models....so we'll see VQ"37" while toyo will still b using their 3.5 for awhile honda....eehhhhhh

when the mighty Toyota Avalon shows up in the rear view mirror, not to mention lesser Saab's and Volvo's.

Only this time, it looks like Toyota is now willing to go 'tit-for-tat' with Nissan and Honda......which means more options for us enthusiasts.
never thought i would see the day, but when the new IS came out, it became obvious as to what toyota will do in the future.
for lexus cars, since the IS has more hp than any other model they make, in a few years most of their cars will gain at least another 20 hp, especially the v8's.
this 'war' isnt that big of a deal. it was bound to happen and its about time. the tech has been around and now its being forced out. this means we will get better engines without an increase in price. this is healthy competition that benefits consumers, not manufacturers. and thats always a good thing (unless your an exec. for a car co.!)
